Chapter 547: Chapter 563 Relentless Confession (14)
The man reached out his hand and pressed the elevator button. As he saw the sixth floor, his hand dropped back down.
With more than twenty floors in this building, there were numerous residential users. Bumping into a user living on the same floor was not rare, so Isabel Smith didn’t pay much attention. She quickly looked down and started searching for her keys inside her bag.
The man wearing a baseball cap stood in a corner of the elevator, pretending to be inadvertent while stealing glances at Isabel with the corner of his eye.
The elevator soon arrived on the sixth floor. The door opened, and the man with the baseball cap stood inside like a gentleman, waiting for Isabel to exit before he followed her out.
There were six houses on each floor, three each on the east and west sides. Isabel lived in the southernmost house on the east side. Coincidentally, the man stood right next to Isabel’s house.
When Isabel opened her door and entered, the man was taking out his key. As Isabel shut her door, the man took out a mobile phone from his pocket place, looked at Isabel’s door for a couple of seconds, then turned and walked towards the corridor nearby. As the man went downstairs, he made a phone call: "Hello, I’ve found the person you asked me to follow, and I’m now familiar with her residence."
...
After taking a bath, Isabel realized she hadn’t drawn her curtains when she came out wrapped in a bath towel. She quickly went back into the bathroom, put on her bathrobe, and then came back out.
As Isabel drew her curtains, she inadvertently saw the familiar car parked downstairs through the car window.
Isabel’s curtain-drawing motion paused abruptly. She stood by the window, silently watching for a moment before walking to her bed, taking her mobile phone out of her bag, and calling Percy Stanton.
...
The phone ring jolted Percy awake from his thoughts. He turned to look at his mobile phone, then quickly picked it up and answered: "Isabel?"
"Hmm, where are you?"
The woman’s voice was soft, carried by radio waves through the night and flowing gently into his ears and straight into his heart.
"What’s the matter?" Percy didn’t answer Isabel’s question. Instead, he straightened up in his car seat, checked the time, and saw that it was already 10:00 pm. Then he asked, "Why aren’t you asleep yet?"
"I’m about to sleep. I just saw a familiar car while drawing my curtains, so I wanted to call and check if you’ve lost yours by any chance?"
He chuckled softly. "Hehe..." Percy opened the car door, stepped out gracefully with his long legs, leaned against the car, and looked up towards the sixth floor. Then, he located the lit window where he saw the familiar figure.
Isabel reached out her hand, pushed the window open, and waved at him.
Percy just smiled. From a distance of six floors, he gazed deeply at Isabel, seeing only her silhouette, and said, "Go to sleep early. It’s cold, so don’t leave the window open. Be careful not to catch a cold."
"Okay, good." Isabel answered, then closed the window. Speaking into the phone with a slight reluctance, she said, "Now I’m going to sleep."
"Yeah, go to sleep."
Isabel knew she should hang up, but for some reason, she was reluctant to do so. She wanted to continue talking to Percy, but her mind was somewhat foggy, blank in the moment. In the end, she sheepishly said, "Then, I’m hanging up."
"Yeah, goodbye."
Isabel pursed her lips and said, "Good night."
"Hmm."
Afterward, neither of them said anything. Their breaths circulated in the phone call, and after a while, Isabel finally raised her hand and ended the call.
Her room fell silent, and she peeked through the window at the ground floor before finally, slowly drawing the curtains.
