Chapter 546: Chapter 562 Relentless Confession (13)

When Percy Stanton got in the car, Isabel Smith remained silent, refusing to look at him.

On the way back home, Percy kept initiating conversations with her, but Isabel acted as if she didn’t hear him.

As they were approaching Isabel’s building, she suddenly turned around. Through the rearview mirror, she glanced at Percy who was focused on driving. His handsome face, fair skin, and the faint red marks of her fingers were still visible. She hesitated for a moment before finally speaking in a soft, feminine voice, "Percy, I’m sorry."

"Sorry for what?" Percy asked, turning his head questioningly towards Isabel.

Lowering her head slightly, she said sheepishly, "For hitting you at noon."

Only then did Percy recall the incident. He casually touched his face and replied, gazing at Isabel with a hangdog expression: "It’s alright, Isabel. From here on, every time you hit me, I’ll pin you down on the bed once. This way, it’s fair. Don’t you think?"

Over my dead body!

Isabel instantly regretted the apology she had offered up moments ago. She got out of the car in a huff, clutching the shopping bags from her afternoon spree in her hands.

"Isabel..."

Just as she was about to close the car door, she paused and glanced back at Percy.

Percy was leaning on the steering wheel, looking at Isabel as he spoke, "If you believe that’s unfair, I wouldn’t mind if you change the rules from me being the one doing you to you being the one doing me——"

Before he could finish, there was a loud bang. The co-pilot seat’s door was abruptly slammed shut. Isabel quickly walked away, her high heels clicking against the pavement.

Percy rolled down the window, looking at Isabel, her shyness quickly replaced by spite. He cheerfully called after her: "Isabel, good night!"

Isabel walked even faster.

"Isabel, see you tomorrow."

Isabel quickly entered the building and pressed the elevator button without turning back.

Watching Isabel’s receding figure, Percy leaned back on his car seat. He looked out at the bustling city streets bathed in glittering streetlights, his heart unusually serene.

Outside the car window, the traffic was busy with the sounds of honking horns echoing in the air.

But for Percy, in that moment, it was as if the world was quiet, with only him remaining.

After sitting a while in silence, he reached out and turned on the car radio. A male voice sang a tender melody.

"Only to realize later, that loving you has become a habit, I tell the same lies as you do."

"You always want me by your side, saying what happiness should look like; the heaven you’ve given me is actually a desolate place."

"If I could bring myself to end our relationship, we wouldn’t have to struggle so much in love. But I am not brave enough, always anxious for you, always yielding for you. After all, having loved so deeply, nobody should go away hurt."

"I can forever smile and play your supporting role, enduring agony for you. If you want to leave, do it sooner. I don’t insist we grow old together..."

Percy slowly closed his eyes. "Isabel," he murmured to himself, "I can forever smile and play your supporting role, enduring agony for you. Even if you don’t want me, I won’t quit, because I have to grow old with you."

Gradually, every memory of his past with Isabel came flooding back into Percy’s mind from start to finish.

The beginning was so beautiful, the middle was heart-wrenching. The only question was whether it would end like a fairy tale — perfectly.

...

Isabel entered the elevator. As she pressed the ’6’ button, the closing elevator doors suddenly opened again.

She lifted her head and saw a man with a baseball cap walk into the elevator.
