Chapter 520: Chapter 536: To Leave or Not to Leave? (1)
Immediately after, two consecutive "slap!" sounds rang in her ears.
That sound echoed sharply in Isabel Smith’s ears, causing her body to tremble. Then, she subconsciously thought that her face would feel pain.
However, after waiting for a while, she surprisingly found herself unharmed.
Isabel, then, opened her eyes in amazement and saw Evelyn Osbert covering her face and standing there somewhat embarrassed, staring at the person beside her in disbelief.
Isabel slowly turned her head and saw Percy Stanton looking downcast, with one hand holding a bottle of Red Flower Oil and the other hand pulling a wallet from his pocket. He fumbled inside it for a while, grabbed some banknotes, and harshly threw them at Evelyn Osbert’s face, saying: "If you think 250 dollars isn’t enough, I’ll give you 438 now. Take this money and get out of here!"
The money hit Evelyn Osbert’s face and then scattered on the ground.
Just like earlier, Raymond Thompson only bent down to pick up money after it fell on the ground. He then rolled it up with the 250 dollars from earlier and put it in his pocket.
The adult world is complex, with people throwing money on the ground. Father gave him only a few hundred dollars in pocket money per month. As long as he picked up the money, it would be his!
Evelyn Osbert first looked at Percy Stanton with her hand on her face, then lowered her head to look at Raymond Thompson, who had picked up the last three coins. Only then did she slowly realize that this little boy was Percy’s son!
She clearly wanted to get closer to Percy, but somehow, she ended up causing this kind of drama.
Looking at Percy Stanton, who stood by Isabel’s side, Evelyn felt tears welling up.
She really wanted to rush forward and tell Percy that she just disliked Isabel. If she had known that the little boy was his son, she would have never said those things about Raymond!
However, Evelyn saw Isabel looking at her with a detached and cold gaze. She swallowed hard, suppressing her impulses, and then turned around hurriedly and left.
...
That night, after dinner, the three of them went to soak in the warm hot springs again.
Like yesterday, Raymond fell asleep halfway through the soak.
Isabel’s leg was injured, Percy Stanton carried her here, so he looked at his sleeping son and said: "Isabel, wait for me here for a moment. I’ll take Raymond back and then come back to pick you up."
Isabel lazily turned herself over in the warm water, closed her eyes, and let out an "Mm."
Percy’s eyes lingered on Isabel’s fair skin submerged in the water, making him feel feverish. He quickly averted his gaze, picked up Raymond, wrapped him in a big towel and walked out hurriedly, leaving a trail of water on the ground.
There were many people on vacation at Redleaf Manor, and each small hot spring was blocked by green bamboo. However, some conversations could still reach Isabel’s ears.
"It’s not easy to get a two-day vacation to relax here. But it doesn’t feel like much and I have to go back to work tomorrow."
"Yeah, comfortable days always go by so fast. I really wish I could escape from the world like this for the rest of my life, living without worries or responsibilities."
Isabel silently nestled in the water, the hot spring bubbling against her back, causing her whole body to relax. However, her heart suddenly felt heavy.
It had been several days since she broke free from that oppressive and troubled life. However, Evelyn’s appearance today made her feel uneasy all afternoon.
Now, listening to those people’s complaints, her mind felt hazy, so much so that she didn’t notice when Percy returned and stepped into the water.
"What are you thinking about?" Percy Stanton looked at Isabel, who was lying at the edge of the hot spring with her eyes closed. He leaned towards her ear and whispered the question.
