Chapter 487: Chapter 503: So It’s Him (8)
He chatted casually for a while, but as the conversation went on, he lost interest. When the girl tried to cuddle up to him and kiss him, he suddenly turned around and left.
On his way back to the Thompson Family Estate, he gradually realized a desperate truth: in this world, there really was no one for him other than Isabel Smith.
He knew that in this world, anyone could live without anyone else. However, when he tried to interact with other women, he found himself feeling a layer of guilt at the bottom of his heart.
Isabel had become the object of his love, instinctively.
No matter how many beautiful women there were in this world, if they were not Isabel Smith... he would find them tasteless.
Thinking of this, Percy Stanton suddenly raised his hand to grab Isabel’s hand. His movement was too quick, and it caused the hangover soup in her spoon to spill.
"Ah..." Isabel Smith let out a low cry, and in the next second, Percy grabbed the Porcelain Bowl from her palm, placed it on the table beside them before yanking her upper body into his arms, grasping her hand and pressing it to his left chest, remaining silent as he stared at Isabel. Startled by Percy’s sudden actions, Isabel instinctively opened her mouth to question him, but he gestured for her to be silent. Slightly opening her mouth, she closed it again.
The room was suddenly very quiet.
After a long time, Percy finally spoke and asked, "Can you feel it?"
Isabel looked at Percy with confusion.
Percy held Isabel’s hand on his left chest, slowly rubbing it as he spoke seriously, "Can you feel my heartbeat?"
"It has never beaten as rapidly and intensely as it does now... Do you know why it’s beating so fast now?"
Isabel could clearly feel the man’s heart beating rapidly under her palm, accompanied by a burning heat.
Isabel subconsciously shrank her hand, but Percy firmly hugged her waist, staring into her eyes as he spoke in a slightly lowered tone, "Because it belongs to you. It’s been yours for many years... In a moment, you can make it as lively as ever, or in a second, make it as silent as ashes."
Isabel was stunned, and she faintly heard something breaking in the depths of her heart.
The sunlight outside the window, shining through the glass and onto Percy’s face, made his features even more noble. Filled with infinite tenderness, he looked into the depths of Isabel’s eyes, "Do you know? Isabel Smith, the thing I regret the least in this world is meeting you and falling in love with you."
"If you don’t want to be a stepmother, I won’t let you be one. If you want to get engaged, we can do that, too. But let me stay by your side, okay?"
He spoke so indifferently, as if it had nothing to do with him, but it stirred up a great wave in Isabel’s heart.
She had pushed him away so cruelly, saying things that now, even thinking about them, made her feel like a terrible person. Why wasn’t he angry, why didn’t he mind, and why after meeting her again could he still treat her as well as ever, helping her?
Isabel’s throat was choked, and she looked at Percy. After opening and closing her mouth several times, she finally asked, trembling, "Why?"
Percy didn’t say anything, just looking at her with quiet and tender eyes.
"Why don’t you get angry? Why do you say these things to me?" A tear dangled at the corner of Isabel’s eye, and she didn’t know if she was angry at herself or at Percy as she raised her voice, "Why do such a thing? Why? Tell me, why? What’s so good about Isabel Smith that you treat her like this? What’s so good about her? Tell me, tell me!"
