Chapter 476: Chapter 492: You Promised I Still Have You (34)

Percy didn’t follow her in, but instead sat in the car for a few minutes. He saw the light turn on in her sixth-floor room, then observed Isabel’s shadow swaying back and forth before her curtains were drawn. About ten minutes later, the big light in her room dimmed, and a faint lamplight reflected out.

It was only then that Percy checked the time on his mobile phone, realizing it was already one o’clock in the morning.

His heart began to feel uncomfortable again, and he couldn’t help but wonder.

While he wasn’t around, did Isabel work overtime late into the night every day?

What was the point of her working herself to death for the Smith Corporation, which was less than one in a million compared to the Thompson Empire Group?

...

Isabel was indeed very busy lately. Having chosen this path, she must continue down it with no regrets.

The next morning, she got up as usual at 8:30 and followed her regular routine of getting ready and eating something as a quick breakfast. She then hurried out the door. While waiting for the elevator, Isabel received a phone call from Ella Adams, a junior from Starhaven University whom she had met briefly the previous year.

Isabel was a bit puzzled by the sudden call and was just about to ask what was going on when Ella began, "Senior Isabel, please hurry to Frangipani Road. Elijah has gone crazy..."

...

Elijah Smith was Isabel’s weak spot.

Ella spoke disjointedly on the phone, making it hard for Isabel to understand what was going on. All Isabel caught was the location "Frangipani Road."

After hanging up, Isabel saw the elevator was still several floors up, so she rushed to the staircase and ran down. She then hurried out of the building, hailed a taxi, and gave the driver the destination.

Isabel was extremely anxious throughout the ride, urging the taxi driver constantly, causing him to nearly rear-end the car in front several times.

When they finally reached the destination, Isabel didn’t even wait for the car to stop fully. She grabbed a bill from her wallet, threw it onto the car seat, opened the car door, and ran towards Frangipani Road.

Frangipani Road was an essential walking route for the luxurious residential area near Starhaven University. Isabel had occasionally passed through here when she was a student. Usually, the road was full of neatly dressed people heading to work, but today it seemed unusually quiet. As she entered the road, Isabel saw a crowd gathered not far ahead.

Isabel’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly ran towards them. As she got closer, she heard a painful scream. Her hands were shaking as she pushed through the crowd and squeezed her way in, only to see Elijah, seemingly mad, grabbing someone and furiously beating them on the ground.

The person pressed to the ground by Elijah had disheveled clothes and a face covered in blood, making it difficult for Isabel to recognize who it was.

"Elijah, you’re crazy!" Isabel threw her bag aside, stepped forward, and seized Elijah’s raised hand. "Elijah, stop it!"

Elijah’s eyes were red and swollen, but he seemed not to hear Isabel’s pleas. He shook his arm with force, causing Isabel to be flung aside.

Unable to keep her balance, Isabel stumbled and squatted down on the ground.

Ella, who was standing not far away, hurried over and helped Isabel up. "Senior Isabel, what do we do? If Elijah keeps this up, someone could die!"

Getting back up, Isabel rubbed her bruised hip and stared at Elijah angrily, gritting her teeth as she asked, "What the hell happened? What nonsense is this rascal up to now?"

"I don’t know! Elijah and I left our home together to go to school. We were halfway there when we suddenly ran into this guy. Without saying a word, Elijah dropped his school bag and punched him. Then they started fighting."
