The air hostess nodded and left.

Not five minutes later, a standard announcement sounded in the airport terminal: "Dear passengers, we regret to inform you that flight number XXXX from Bellshire to Ravenwood City has been delayed due to air traffic control issues. We kindly ask for your patience and we deeply apologize for any inconvenience caused."

Percy Stanton, standing in the Super VIP Lounge, faintly heard the announcements from outside. A sense of growing unease began to stir in his heart.

Half an hour passed unknowingly, slow and subtle.

Suddenly, the door to the Super VIP lounge swung open. Percy whirled around in surprise, but his heart sank, and his expression cooled several degrees at the sight of the air hostess.

The air hostess cast a mildly nervous glance at Percy before hesitantly speaking. "Mr. Stanton, half an hour has already passed.."

"Postpone the flight a little while longer." Percy turned his head away, sounding devoid of all emotion.

"But this could lead to complaints from other passengers; they may ask for compensation."

Percy seemed agitated by the hostess’ words. He suddenly snapped, cutting her off: "Then compensate!"

The blatant annoyance in his words frightened the hostess. She bobbed her head silently, then turned around to hurry out of the room.

Another half hour passed. This time, when the hostess returned to urge him, Percy didn’t wait for her to speak. He closed his eyes, decisively and frostily replying, "Delay it further."

And so, the clock ticked from three to five. Isabel Smith still hadn’t shown up despite numerous visits from the hostess to consult Percy. And just as the hostess was about to ask again, Percy’s mobile phone suddenly rang.

Percy raised his hand to stop the hostess, then took out his mobile phone. His gaze brightened significantly at the sight of Raymond Thompson’s call. A look of regret crossed his face as he answered the call, only to hear Raymond’s tender, aggrieved voice accusing him, "Father, you heartless man, smitten by the sight of a beauty!"

Percy frowned: "What on earth are you blabbering about, Raymond?"

"Uncle John Quincy told me you went to Bellshire to find your beloved woman. You actually abandoned Raymond for some beauty!" Raymond seemed quite upset about Percy’s prolonged absence from Ravenwood City. He complained indignantly, "Moreover, Dad, it’s not fair. Why didn’t you take me with you when you went to Bellshire to search for your beloved woman? I’m upset. I also wanted to find my beloved Sister Isabel!"

Percy, lifting hand to rub his somewhat throbbing temple, paused momentarily before saying, "Raymond, I’ll be back in Ravenwood City soon."

After ending the call, Percy immediately told the waiting hostess, "Let’s board the plane."

By the time Percy returned to the Thompson Family Estate in Ravenwood City, it was already 8 o’clock at night.

The entire Thompson Empire Group had gathered here, amounting to a headcount of over twenty.

The servants at the Thompson Family Estate had prepared a vast bounty of food. The moment Percy arrived home, Charlotte Thompson immediately rallied everyone to start dinner. They gathered around a long dining table, filling it all around.

The New Year’s Eve dinner was lively. Although dejected at heart, Percy maintained a normal appearance throughout, continued pretending all the way until dinner, but was left feeling quite exhausted. So he got up and headed upstairs to bathe.

When he emerged after his bath, he stood out on the balcony where he had a perfect view of everyone below still setting off fireworks. Raymond, dressed in a vibrant yellow outfit, held a sparkler, running around excitedly.

With so many people around, it should have felt festive, but Percy found it somewhat lonely. He couldn’t help turning back into his room, pulling the curtain, and then switching on the TV.
