Chapter 464: Chapter 480: It’s Said that I Still Have You (22)
Elijah Smith instinctively wanted to reach down and help Isabel Smith up, but Evelyn Osbert was a step ahead and rushed into Elijah’s arms, crying as if her heart would break, "Elijah, I don’t know what I did wrong for Sister Isabel to slap me like that."
So good at taking the initiative to report first... Isabel sneered bitterly in her heart, then pulled out a bag from the side, placed the ceramic shards she had picked up into it, held it in her hand, glanced at Evelyn with mocking eyes, and strode out of the bedroom.
Evelyn shuddered involuntarily under Isabel’s mocking gaze, then burrowed further into Elijah’s embrace, saying, "Elijah, I only accidentally knocked over her cup..."
The cup... Elijah instinctively looked at Isabel’s desk, seeing that the priceless cup she had cherished since birth was gone... Only then did he realize why Isabel was so angry. Angrily, he yanked Evelyn out of his embrace and said, "What were you doing, breaking her cup? Do you know, that is the most precious memory my parents left for her!"
Elijah pushed Evelyn away, hurriedly opened the door, and chased after her.
Elijah leaped down the stairs in a few steps, and seeing that Isabel was no longer in the living room on the first floor, he hurriedly walked outside. Before he left, he heard a low, melancholy voice from the study next to the entrance hall, "Alexa, Terrence Wood’s wife just called and said they’ve done everything we asked them to do, and they’re hoping for the second payment before the Spring Festival. Can you send the money now?"
Elijah’s figure froze in place.
Terrence Wood’s wife... Wasn’t that the old woman who slapped Isabel that day?
They had done everything they were supposed to do and needed the second payment... What was going on?
Elijah vaguely guessed something in his mind... All along, he thought the incident that day was just a misunderstanding, but he never expected... all those things were done by his uncle’s family!
Elijah was so shocked by the news that he couldn’t move for a while, until he heard the footsteps in the study, then hurriedly lowered his head and pretended to put on his shoes as if nothing had happened.
Carla Osbert opened the door to the study and saw Elijah Smith standing at the door. She paused for a moment, her voice slightly tense, "Elijah?"
Elijah finished tying his shoelaces, stood up, turned to Carla, and greeted her with his usual calm and friendly smile, "Auntie."
Seeing that Elijah’s expression didn’t seem unusual, Carla assumed he hadn’t heard anything, so she smiled and asked, "Elijah, we’ll be having dinner soon. Where are you going?"
"A friend asked me out for a while; I’ll be back soon."
"Drive safely."
"Mmm." Elijah nodded, and politely said, "Auntie, goodbye."
He then turned around, pushed open the door, and stepped out.
As soon as he left the house, Elijah’s face darkened.
Standing at the door, he could no longer see Isabel’s figure. He didn’t get up to chase her. Instead, he walked slowly toward a little attic behind the villa.
As he opened the door, Elijah was greeted by the musty smell of decay. The furnishings in the attic were old, and the surroundings were filled with various flower pots, their soil dried and hardened.
This attic used to be where his mother grew flowers. When he and Isabel were young, they would often come here to secretly pick flowers. Later, after his mother passed away, his grandma would often lock him in here as punishment for his mistakes.</
