Chapter 460: Chapter 476: You Promised I Still Have You (18)
A sense of excitement surged in Isabel Smith’s heart, making her instinctively want to nod and say yes to Percy Stanton, to let him know she was willing.
However, just as she was about to speak, all the practical concerns came flooding back into her mind, crushing the feelings of joy and happiness that filled her heart at that moment.
She almost forgot her purpose for returning to her home country, her deep-seated resentment, her first child, and... that night when she desperately couldn’t find him.
Isabel was indeed a little resentful about that night when she called him so many times, but he never answered.
No one is perfect, right?
Isabel understood this, but with the little she had left, she couldn’t bear any more loss.
She was no longer the Isabel Smith who once had everything, who could recklessly love without considering the consequences.
She still had responsibilities to bear.
Before being Percy’s beloved woman, she was first and foremost her parents’ cherished daughter.
Isabel’s heart suddenly became heavy.
She didn’t know what her future path would look like, but she knew that she no longer had the luxury of indulging in the joys of love.
Had the surprise just now been too sudden, making Isabel feel overwhelmed with sadness in an instant?
The missed opportunity six years ago, the helplessness six years later... it was really hard to tell whether life imitates art or art imitates life.
If rejection was a skill, Isabel had mastered it quite well.
She had arrogantly and directly refused various kinds of confessions from her numerous suitors, regardless of whether she’d offend them or not.
But now, facing Percy, her skill seemed to vanish without a trace, she didn’t know how to speak up, so she chose to remain silent.
A long silence ensued between the two, and no one spoke up.
In this silence, the anticipation in Percy’s heart slowly dwindled to nothing.
He glanced at Isabel for a while, then slightly turned his head, a hint of sadness in his eyes. Due to the backlight, his stunningly handsome face looked somewhat blurry.
Actually, he knew that his confession might not succeed. That night when he didn’t answer her phone calls, leaving her alone to face the death of their child, she wouldn’t be able to not doubt his love. But even so, he had no reason not to confess now.
It’s just that he didn’t really want to hear her rejection.
After a while, Percy finally took a deep breath and spoke up. His tone remained the same, gentle and calm: "Isabel, I’m not making you answer my question right now. I know it’s sudden me saying all this, so I’ll give you some time to think about it."
Percy paused, then continued: "Isabel, there are only four days left until New Year’s Eve, and I’ll be flying back to Ravenwood City that morning because Raymond Thompson is expecting me to join him for New Year’s. So, I’m giving you four days, during which time I won’t disturb you, pressure you or make things difficult for you. Just think seriously whether you want to be with me or not."
"If you want to be with me, then I’ll take you away to live a simple and happy life. You won’t have to face the bustling North City every day or force a smile while dealing with people and things in the shopping mall. You won’t have to endure the occasional power struggles in the mall. You can have fewer worries, less pain, more happiness, and more love."
Percy didn’t even mention what would happen if Isabel decided not to be with him. After saying all this, he simply said, "So, Isabel, let’s go home, and you can take your time thinking about it."
