Chapter 448: Chapter 464: Promised I Still Have You (6)
Unbeknownst to him, fine snowflakes began to fall from the sky. The snow gradually grew heavier, soon covering Percy Stanton’s shoulders in a thick layer.
Only when he felt the chill did he raise his hand to brush off the snowflakes, then turned around, opened the floor-to-ceiling window on the balcony, and walked back into the bedroom.
Isabel Smith, lying on the bed, was still sound asleep. He slowly walked over and looked at her face, unable to describe the emotions churning in his heart. What had been happening lately?
First, it was their child who had just died, then her crying in the corridor, revealing her deepest vulnerabilities, and finally him discovering her hidden secrets.
Could it be that as the Spring Festival approaches, even the heavens have started to resolve their issues?
He had always seen her unhappiness and dissatisfaction in her eyes and actions, but it wasn’t until tonight that he realized how pitiful and bitter her life was.
He had always thought that he cared for Isabel deeply, but most of the time, all he saw was the elegant goddess-like Isabel, dressed beautifully, standing in front of everyone. However, as he looked at her now, stripped of all her charms, so frail and restless even in her sleep, a heart-wrenching pain emerged from the depths of his heart.
He had always regarded her as Lady Purple Cloud, but now, he felt that her life was more like King of Monkey’s.
From knowing nothing in the beginning to suddenly encountering true love, and finally having the courage to face everything, only to find herself with no choice but to embark on the journey to the West with Monk Tang.
Wasn’t Isabel’s life just like that?
In her youth, she was brave and straightforward, crazy and infatuated with love.
But when she was about to attain her love, a sudden tragedy changed her entire life.
She had no choice, no resistance, and could only accept it.
He had always thought that he was the aggrieved one in their relationship, but when the truth was about to be revealed, he realized that in this love story, everyone had lost and paid so much.
At times, love could also be fair.
...
When Isabel woke up the second day, Percy was no longer in the apartment.
Everything that happened last night seemed like a dream, as if it never existed. However, when she lifted the quilt and saw that the furnishings in the room had changed, she remembered that the power outage had happened last night.
She had been pretending to be strong all the while, so strong that it seemed she was impervious to swords and guns, yet she had still become so vulnerable and helpless in an instant.
But still, going to Percy in her vulnerable state wasn’t a wise move at all.
Isabel stood on the floor, sighed, shook her head, and went to the bathroom.
As she finished washing up and came out, her mobile phone rang on the bed. She walked over, picked it up, and noticed that the call was from Mrs. Smith.
Isabel hesitated for a moment, then answered without any hesitation and said, "Grandma."
As the call connected, Mrs. Smith’s stern voice came through, cold as if giving an order, "Isabel, come to the Smith Mansion this afternoon. I’ll take you out for dinner tonight."
Though curious about why Mrs. Smith suddenly contacted her, Isabel obediently and quickly responded, "Okay."
After hanging up the call, Isabel checked the time and saw that it was still early, so she sat leisurely on the edge of the bed. As she set down her phone, she glanced at the date, realizing that it was already Lunar December 24th. It had been more than twenty days since she had taken a temporary leave from Smith Corporation. There was no 30th day in this Lunar December, so the 29th was New Year’s Eve and the Spring Festival was only five days away.
