Chapter 447: Chapter 463: Promised I Still Have You (5)

Perhaps it was because Percy Stanton was too excited by the sudden revelation, or perhaps, he was just too overwhelmed by the emotion at the moment. But for a while, he didn’t stop to think about what Isabel Smith’s record of her pregnancy might hide. He just hurriedly continued to flip through the cards.

——X year X month X day, I feel the baby’s movements. It gives me the warmth I’ve been craving during my lonely times in the United States. So, I started to talk to the baby every day, sharing only the beautiful things in life. I wouldn’t tell the baby about my parents’ tragic end. I only spoke about my love with my Male God. The love that tied us across our five encounters.

.....

Many, many records, written for her child, for her deceased parents, and for the Elijah Smith she left in Bellshire.

She recorded everything very meticulously, even the baby’s movements. After looking at the records for quite some time, only then did Percy realise she was still present in them.

——Is it because my memory is too poor, or is it because too much has happened recently, that I can’t remember what Marion Hancock looks like? I remember he was very handsome, but I can’t recall his eyes or his face. However, I remember every detail about the five times we met. They’re as clear as though they happened just yesterday. It turns out that the only reason we remember someone is because of certain moments. The warmest, everlasting moments are always the stories.

She hadn’t really forgotten, had she?

She only forgot what he looked like. If not for his extraordinary memory, Percy thought to himself, given time, he might have forgotten about her too.

At one point, he resented himself for remembering her too clearly. Now, he was grateful. Grateful that he could still remember her.

If he had forgotten her... they might be complete strangers to each other right now.

In reality, he had always had the upper hand. He knew her name, knew a lot about her. He had saved her photos from the Starhaven University forum, which kept his memories vivid.

What’s the happiest thing in life?

It must be when you suddenly realise one day that the person you’ve been longing for has also been thinking about you all along.

Percy inhaled deeply and continued to look at the last card. The ink on it looked fairly new.

——X year X month X day, In "A Tale Odyssey", the Lady Purple Cloud said, "My ideal man is a world hero. One day, he will come to marry me while riding on a rainbow cloud." I’ve always fantasized about a dream like this. But in the end, I discovered, just like the Lady Purple Cloud, I guessed the beginning of the story correctly but guessed the ending of the story wrong. Goodbye, my love. Do you know? I once loved you.

As Percy read the final words, he faintly felt as if Isabel Smith, with her beautiful, captivating eyes, was looking at him, smiling gently, but speaking in a melancholic tone: "Do you know? I once loved you."

Her words were like a gust of icy wind, chilling to the bone, blowing fiercely into his heart and causing a throbbing pain.

He stood there, holding the card and staring at it for a long while. Finally, he slowly placed the cards, one by one, back into the Peninsula Iron Box. He gently locked it with the golden lock, then put the box back into his nightgown pocket.

Then he walked out to the balcony of his bedroom, still dressed in the clothes from last night. The weather, just before dawn, was extremely cold. He wanted to smoke but didn’t want to go home to get his cigarettes. So he just raised his head, looking at the dark sky. There were no stars or moonlight. The approaching dawn left the lights of Bellshire faint and sparse, much like the heavy and painful feelings in his heart.
