Chapter 441: Chapter 457: The Late Menstruation (19)

Isabel Smith, scared, picked up her mobile phone, got out of bed, and went to look for a flashlight. However, this was a luxurious residential area in Bellshire where power outages were unheard of; she couldn’t remember if she had prepared a flashlight at all.

Isabel first searched in her bedside cabinet, then rummaged through her closet, and finally went to the wardrobe. The battery level of her mobile had dropped from 10% to 4%, and anxiety rose in her whole body.

Why didn’t she have a flashlight?

Or candles?

Why couldn’t she find any candles?

Just as Isabel was desperately searching, her mobile suddenly went off, and the entire bedroom was plunged into complete darkness.

Isabel leaned against the wardrobe, trembling with fear. Ever since her parents died, she was most afraid of this kind of pitch-black darkness. She felt as if her own life had fallen into such a dark abyss, never to see the light again.

Isabel pressed the power button on her mobile phone, but the dead phone could not emit the slightest light, no matter how hard she pressed.

Fumbling in the dark, she searched haphazardly in the wardrobe. She pulled out all the clothes and items but had no idea what any of them were, grabbing anything she could find. She even pulled out things from the bottom layer, but still, she didn’t find a single item that could emit light.

The house was in a frightening silence, and Isabel could hear her own anxious heartbeat. She continued touching the wardrobe unwillingly, but it was clearly empty as everything had been thrown out of it. Finally, she gave up and collapsed on the ground.

When would the power come back on...

Isabel hugged her knees and thought, lost in her own world.

Time ticked by, and during this period, Isabel felt like she was in the scariest movie, at any risk of dying from fright. At last, she could not take it anymore and staggered up from the ground. Relying on her memory, she exited the changing room and went into the bedroom. She then took cautious steps and moved out of the bedroom.

She walked very carefully, scanning her surroundings. She always felt as if something might fall in front of her, and when she reached out her hand, she would touch warm, pungent fresh blood.

Isabel desperately tried to hold back her sobs and held her breath as she moved inch by inch in the pitch-black living room. As she passed the large clock hanging in the living room, she could hear the ticking sound of the second hand. Usually, she wouldn’t notice it with the lights on, but now her eyesight was gone, and her hearing became extremely sensitive. The sound fell into her ears, giving her an eerie feeling. Terrified, Isabel dropped her phone onto the ground, and her tears burst out. She then rushed to the living room door, opening it with trembling fingers and ran out.

The whole building was without power, and the corridor was pitch-black. Isabel knew that Percy Stanton’s house door was right across from hers, and she knew that he was inside. She could not care about the quarrels between them or about taking revenge; she just quickly ran over and, without hesitation, began to knock on Percy’s room door forcefully.

She didn’t care whether she would disturb the neighbors; she just continued to knock on the door with loud "bang, bang, bang" noises.

As if reaching her emotional limit, she cried and, lowering her voice, said to the door, "I know you’re in there, please open the door, I’m so scared..."

"Open the door... I’m scared of the dark... open the door..."

Isabel yelled while helplessly turning her head. She then saw a faint light at a window in the middle of the hallway.
