Chapter 426: Chapter 442: The Late Menstruation (4)

He did not know how to describe his feelings at the moment. Outside the car window, the winter sun in Bellshire City was remarkably bright and warm, but he felt a bone-chilling cold throughout his body.

He did not even dare to think about the state of mind Isabel Smith was in when she searched for him with her mobile phone on that ice-cold night yesterday.

As soon as he thought about it, he couldn’t help but shed tears.

It wasn’t until the sun moved to the west that Percy Stanton wiped his face, started the engine of the car, and left the Mobile Business Hall’s doorstep. He didn’t know where to go. He wanted to visit Isabel Smith in the hospital, but he found that he didn’t have the courage to do so.

Or more accurately, he had no words to face her.

He didn’t know what kind of face to use to confront the woman who desperately needed him but couldn’t find him.

Once upon a time, the promises he made to her were heartfelt and sincere, but now, he felt that those touching whispers he uttered in the late-night were like sharp jokes, mocking him for not being able to keep his word.

Isabel Smith’s heart must be hating him to death right now. As a matter of fact, he hated himself too. He knew that it wasn’t entirely his fault that things had turned out this way, but as a man, he had to take responsibility for such a significant event. No matter who was more in the wrong in the past, the life-changing consequences of his actions now were entirely his fault.

Percy sighed and reached into his pocket, only to find he had smoked all of his cigarettes. He wanted to pull over and buy a pack, but found that his legs felt as though they were filled with lead, unable to move.

Not having eaten for an entire day, he felt no hint of hunger. He drove around Bellshire City, wandering aimlessly until night fell, and the city was illuminated once more. His car slowly approached the hospital where Isabel Smith was staying.

As he looked at the road leading to the hospital entrance, he did not have the courage to drive in, so he slowed down. The cars behind him honked their horns impatiently, but he hesitated for a long time before finally turning the steering wheel and driving in.

He parked the car on the road opposite the hospital main entrance. With just a glance, he could see the high-level emergency building. The hospital was always bustling with people, but there was not a single familiar face.

It wasn’t until late night, around 11 PM, when there were only a few people at the entrance of the hospital, that Percy got out of the car, locked it, and stood beside it, gazing at the hospital entrance for a while before walking over.

Following the hospital’s signpost, he easily found the gynecology and obstetrics inpatient department. He went to the reception desk, asked the night shift nurse for the number of Isabel Smith’s room, and then headed to the elevator to go up to the fourth floor.

The corridor was silent, with only dim yellow light shining. Many rooms had just a faint sleep lamp on. Percy stood at the staircase, hesitating for a moment before slowly walking towards Isabel Smith’s room.

Standing at the door of the room, he could see through the window that Isabel Smith was quietly sleeping on the hospital bed, her face somewhat pale. On her wrist, there appeared to be a big needle that wasn’t removed, probably for the intravenous drip to continue the next day.

Not seeing her for so many days, he had imagined reuniting with Isabel Smith while in Ravenwood City.

He thought that at the latest, they could meet again when she came to Ravenwood City to discuss cooperation with the Thompson Empire Group. He also fantasized about that scene, with Isabel Smith dressed in a smart suit, elegantly standing before him with a beautiful makeup, extending her hand with a bright smile and courteously saying, "Mr. Stanton, hello."
