Chapter 424: Chapter 440: The Late Menstruation (2)

——Percy, save our child...

——Percy, you can blame me, but please not our child...

——Percy, you promised me that you’d be by my side always. Please, save our child, will you? If you don’t want to... I can have the baby on my own and raise it by myself, just please, don’t let our child die...

In the bustling Mobile Business Hall, people milled around, filling the space with noise. The heating was on full blast, and from time to time, a standard announcement rang out, informing customers which counters were available for service.

Percy held his mobile phone, standing at the entrance of the Mobile Business Hall. Many people passed by him, entering and leaving; some occasionally brushed against his shoulder. He remained still, his eyes downcast, focused on the series of over ten text messages on his screen. For a moment, his mouth went dry, and his mind lost all its ability to function.

All of it seemed like an unexpected nightmare that had caught him off guard, leaving him struggling to accept it.

He read those messages over and over again, growing increasingly agitated. Finally, his heart—formerly still as if it had stopped beating—started to tremble.

Only then did his mind slowly comprehend the regretful story behind Isabel’s text messages.

In a moment, Percy’s face turned as pale as paper, his grip on the phone loosened, and it fell heavily to the ground.

All around him, everything seemed to recede from his sight and hearing. In that vast hall, it felt like only he remained.

He remembered that after turning on his phone, he had received dozens of missed call notifications from the mobile company, two-thirds of them from Isabel.

Isabel’s text messages haunted his mind, constantly floating to the surface.

What truly struck him deep down was not the pregnancy, the child, or even death. It was the words "please" and "you promised I would still have you."

He had been with Isabel for so long, how could he not know what kind of woman she was? He was proud of his background, so was she. Wasn’t her pride evident?

For her to call someone so many times and send texts with such a humble tone – wasn’t it her last resort, when backed against a wall with no other way out?

And him?

Where... where was he?

High above the sky at thirty thousand feet, on the way to Bellshire. Lost in thoughts of her being the one and only, relishing an undisturbed sleep in her bed...

God... while he was lost in his sweet dreams, she had been tormented by nightmares.

While he was firm in his resolution, she gradually sank into despair.

Both of them, being human and living in Bellshire City under the same night sky, were experiencing completely different nights.

It was a difference as vast as that between heaven and earth!

Right... he had promised to always be by her side. How could he have left Bellshire then?

When he was in Ravenwood City, consumed with longing and regret, how come he hadn’t returned to Bellshire sooner?

That night she called him – was that when she found out she was pregnant? But in the end, she didn’t tell him. Why hadn’t he been more vigilant and asked her more questions?

Even worse... of all the times he could be absent from her side, why was it when she needed him the most? When he let her down and made it impossible for her to find him?

No wonder she paused just now, saying it was fine. When she was feeling most helpless, he wasn’t there. Why would she bother soliciting his pity now?

Percy’s heart felt as if it were tied up with various bonds. Receiving those messages hours too late was like a knife with thorns, stabbing his heart, and slashing open numerous ghastly wounds. Unending waves of pain coursed through him, ceaseless and unstoppable.

He had just been thinking that what he had missed must have been a great regret.

Now he realized that what he had missed wasn’t just regret, but a warm heart, freshly plucked.
