Chapter 421: Chapter 437: You’re Investigating Me? (19)
"Miss, are you alright?"
Isabel curled up in pain on the ground, unable to respond to the waiter’s barrage of questions.
"There’s blood..." A sharp-eyed waiter pointed at the floor where Isabel was kneeling and cried out in horror.
Isabel turned her head and saw the glaring red on the pristine white floor. Her heart felt as if it was being viciously gripped by something. She opened her mouth but couldn’t say a word, and then she passed out.
"Quick, take her to the hospital..."
The tea restaurant was suddenly thrown into chaos.
Some people made phone calls while others picked up Isabel.
...
At the same time, a plane descended from an altitude of 30,000 feet and landed at Bellshire International Airport.
Percy Stanton left the airport, caught a taxi, and reported his apartment address.
The sky was already dark, and there were very few vehicles on the road. Looking through the car window at the familiar cityscape of Bellshire, a long-lost sense of warmth gradually emerged in Percy’s heart.
In less than half an hour, the car arrived at the apartment building. Percy paid and got out of the car, looking up at the high building in front of him. His gaze immediately locked on the eighteenth floor, and he couldn’t help but smile as he walked into the apartment building.
He took out his key, first unlocking the door to his own apartment. Since no one had lived there for more than ten days, there was a strange smell inside. Percy walked to the window and pushed it open, letting in the cold night breeze. Soon, the air inside the apartment was fresh again.
The furniture in his apartment was left untouched. Feeling slightly fatigued from his long journey, Percy took a bath in the bathroom and then retrieved Isabel’s house key from the bedside cabinet drawer in his apartment before stepping out.
He stood in front of Isabel’s apartment door for a moment before taking out the key and unlocking it.
It was quiet inside, with not a shred of light. He thought that Isabel might already be asleep since it was so late, so he groped his way in the dark toward her bedroom.
As he pushed the bedroom door open, the sound-controlled lamp in Isabel’s room lit up. Percy immediately saw that the bedroom was empty and Isabel was nowhere to be found.
The first thought that crossed his mind was that Isabel no longer lived there.
His heart tightened as he quickly stepped into the dressing room inside the bedroom, opening the wardrobe and seeing that all of Isabel’s clothes were still there. Only then did he feel slightly reassured.
Percy didn’t know where Isabel had gone; he looked around the house and found no landline. His own apartment’s phone had been disconnected since he returned to Ravenwood City, and it was impossible to purchase a mobile phone during the late-night hours.
Isabel’s faint scent lingered in the apartment, causing his heart to relax as he entered. He decided to lie down on Isabel’s bed and wait for her return.
Isabel’s familiar fragrance enveloped him from the quilt on the bed, prompting him to close his eyes as his body and mind relaxed.
In the days since he returned to Ravenwood City, he had not slept comfortably through the night. Now, with Isabel’s scent accompanying him, Percy drifted off to sleep unknowingly.
...
Isabel had a dream. In it, a blood-soaked child with beautiful big eyes looked at her and said, "Mom, I’m leaving." Then the child waved at her, laughing and bounding away.
Isabel instinctively reached out to grab the child but couldn’t catch her, finally opening her eyes in panic. She was greeted with a field of white.
"You’re awake?"
Before Isabel could figure out where she was, a warm male voice sounded by her ear. She turned her head to see a man in a white coat looking at her kindly.
