Chapter 405: Chapter 420: You’re Investigating Me? (2)

Joining the Board of Directors means that she would have a say in Smith Corporation, and winning the Best Team Award would double her department’s year-end bonus, keeping everyone highly motivated for the coming year.

Both things Mrs. Smith mentioned are great news for Isabel Smith.

So when Isabel finally came out of the CEO’s office, holding the signed documents from Mrs. Smith, she had a faint smile on her face. But when she pushed open the door, she ran into Evelyn Osbert, who was hastily standing up.

Evelyn Osbert raised her hand in a fluster, smoothing the hair by her ears, not even looking at Isabel Smith.

Isabel looked Evelyn up and down, knowing that she must have been eavesdropping on her conversation with Mrs. Smith. She let out a soft chuckle and walked past her.

Evelyn had also come to see Mrs. Smith for signature. When she entered, she learned from Mrs. Smith’s secretary that Isabel was in the office. So Evelyn secretly pressed her ear against the door, only to hear Mrs. Smith’s plan to transfer shares to Isabel. Already frustrated, seeing the mocking smile that Isabel gave her, she gritted her teeth and suppressed her anger. She called out to Isabel in a low voice.

Isabel stopped and turned her head slightly, glancing at Evelyn with the corner of her eye.

Evelyn hated it when Isabel looked at her like that, as it always made her lose all her confidence in front of Isabel. Gritting her teeth, Evelyn opened her mouth and whispered to Isabel, "Don’t get too cocky, Isabel Smith. He who laughs last, laughs best!"

"Evelyn Osbert, can you even laugh now?" Isabel directly retorted, making Evelyn’s face turn ugly.

Isabel smiled satisfyingly. Then she stepped forward and whispered into Evelyn’s ear, just loud enough for the two of them to hear, "I guess you heard what Grandma told me. Are you terribly resentful in your heart? What a pity... Evelyn Osbert, after spending six years in Bellshire and pleasing Grandma for six years, you still lost to me after my return. Not only did Grandma give me the shares of Smith’s Corporation, but she also wants me to win the Year-End Best Team Award, which you’ve won for several years in a row, Evelyn."

Evelyn’s face turned extremely ugly after hearing Isabel’s words. Her hand clenched tightly into a fist as she stared at Isabel. Taking several deep breaths, she finally said, "Isabel Smith, don’t think you can gloat here. Now that you’ve lost Percy Stanton, you’re like a bird without wings. I wonder how long you can keep up your arrogance!"

Isabel didn’t mind Evelyn mentioning Percy until she did.

Suddenly, Evelyn was satisfied with Isabel’s reaction and said with a smile, "Just because you don’t mention something, it doesn’t mean others don’t know. You know what’s really going on between you and Percy, don’t you? His sudden resignation wouldn’t have anything to do with you not satisfying him in bed and him leaving you, would it?"

After saying that, Evelyn mockingly returned Isabel’s smile, intending to walk into Mrs. Smith’s office. However, Isabel suddenly grabbed her wrist, pulled her in front of her, and asked, "Evelyn Osbert, aren’t you a hundred-battle veteran when it comes to men? How come you didn’t win Percy over back then?"

Isabel paused for a moment and her tone changed slightly, becoming sharper. She stared into Evelyn’s eyes and said, word by word, "Evelyn Osbert, you know what your words make me feel? It’s like...sour grapes!"
