Chapter 393: Chapter 407: Overestimating Oneself, Underestimating Love (9)

When Isabel Smith left her house, she was wearing high heels. Due to the cold weather, she was walking rather quickly and somewhat unsteadily. While passing a shoe store, Isabel decided to enter and chose a pair of warm flat shoes, which she put on her feet, and then carried her high heels back home.

Perhaps it was because she knew that Percy Stanton and Raymond Thompson had left, Isabel felt an inexplicable sense of loneliness when she stepped out of the elevator and stood in the corridor on the eighteenth floor.

Isabel stared at the door of Percy’s locked room for a while before lowering her head and walking to her own door, opening it and entering her apartment.

Although Isabel was conflicted about whether or not to keep the child, she returned home, tidied up some electronic devices in her bedroom that emitted radiation, stored them in a cabinet, then turned on the air purifier, ate half an apple, drank a cup of milk, and went to bed early, forcing herself to sleep.

...

The airplane was slightly delayed. Instead of taking off at 11 PM as originally scheduled, Percy Stanton and Raymond Thompson boarded the plane at 11:20 PM.

Raymond Thompson was already asleep by this time. Percy carefully placed him in a window seat, fastened his seatbelt, covered him with a blanket, and then leaned back into his own seat, tilting his head to gaze out the airplane window, lost in thought.

At 10:30 pm, the flight attendant began to explain the airplane safety instructions and precautions to everyone.

At 10:40 pm, the airplane entered the runway and gradually increased its speed before finally taking off.

As Percy felt a force pushing him up when the plane lifted off, his heart suddenly thumped, and he instinctively unbuckled his seatbelt and stood up.

Seeing Percy’s actions, the flight attendant quickly reminded him, "Sir, the plane is taking off. Please sit down; it’s too dangerous to stand now."

Regaining his senses, Percy noticed that everyone in the first-class cabin was looking at him, and he was having trouble standing steady on the ascending plane. Eventually, he sat back down in his seat, slowly fastening his seatbelt again.

He gazed at the increasingly blurry view of Bellshire City outside the window, thinking in his heart, goodbye, my love.

Raymond Thompson, who was next to him, slept soundly. As the night grew deeper, people in the first-class cabin closed their eyes one after another, either resting or sleeping. But Percy kept his eyes wide open, staring at the night sky 30,000 feet above, feeling a sudden dull pain in his chest.

Already exhausted, he suddenly felt more fatigued than ever, slumping weakly in his seat.

In his mind, scenes of their past together played like a slow movie, recounting every moment he had shared with her.

When she first met him, she was arrogant and impolite, holding out her hand without even looking him in the eye, saying, "Classmate, can you lend me five dollars?"

When he returned her ID card, she turned and saw his face, instantly changing her reproachful words to, "Classmate, hello, can you lend me your first kiss?"

When they met again many days later, she had given an outstanding performance in the school conference room. With a bare face, she accepted her award, her expression suggesting it was only natural for her to win.

Then, she stopped him and asked, "Classmate, hello, can you lend me your first night?"

Following that, they shared their first kiss, spent a quiet night together in the infirmary, then endured six years of separation and longing, reuniting with a mix of reluctance and laughter, despite the heartache and loss felt along the way.

Up until now, as they went their separate ways and vowed not to see each other again in this life.

Once the most loved person in each other’s hearts, next year, they would become the most familiar strangers.

In less than a minute, the splendid view had changed beyond recognition.

Unable to resist, Percy raised his hand to press on his chest, suddenly feeling a hard object. He reached into his breast pocket and took out the tie clip that Isabel had given him as a Christmas gift.
