Chapter 389: Chapter 403: Overestimating Oneself, Underestimating Love (5)
As Raymond Thompson spoke, he gripped Isabel Smith by the waist, his hand applying a subtle pressure.
What should he do? He was so nervous!
This was his first time confessing his feelings to a woman!
Raymond took a deep breath, licked his rosy lips, just about to continue speaking when Percy Stanton, standing aside, interrupted coldly, "Raymond, we don’t have much time. We need to leave."
Raymond’s words choked in his throat, he glanced at Percy who was rushing him, and then looked at Isabel, looking almost ready to cry. Finally, with an expression of extreme indecision, he hastily told Isabel, "Sister Isabel, don’t worry, I will definitely come back for you. Remember to miss me, I will think of you every day too!"
Percy, hearing Raymond’s sentimental words, frowned and reached out, grabbed Raymond by the collar and pulled him away from Isabel. He then glanced at Isabel, moved his lips as if to speak, but in the end, he simply walked straight into the elevator.
"Sister Isabel, you must wait for me. When I return, we won’t ever part again..." Raymond rushed to finish his confession to Isabel, but before he could finish, the elevator door closed abruptly, silencing him mid-sentence.
Isabel watched as the elevator door closed. She rose subconsciously as the red numbers atop the elevator began to count down.
Isabel stood blankly in front of the elevator for a while, watching the numbers drop from 18 to -3, before she shifted her gaze, looking at the closed door of Percy’s apartment. After spacing out for a while, she went over to her own apartment door, took out her key, and unlocked it.
The apartment was eerily quiet. Isabel turned on the light and realized she had not bought any water yet, so she took out her mobile phone to find the number of the water delivery service.
After some difficulty in searching, she called the number only to be told that the area was now being served by someone else. Not to worry, the man on the call was kind enough to send her the new delivery person’s number.
Looking at the new number, Isabel thought to herself how she’d been spoiled by Percy. These small changes in her everyday life seemed so alien now.
Isabel sighed, made a phone call to order a water jug, then went to her bedroom. She turned on her laptop and ordered some mineral water, milk, and fresh fruits before collapsing onto her bed. She stared blankly at the ceiling, telling herself, "Isabel, it’s not a big deal. You used to be alone before too, and you did just fine."
Though she told herself these things, deep down she still felt uneasy.
She had been caught off guard by the first drastic change in her life. She had to suddenly mature overnight and bear humiliation to protect her share ownership, saving money all the while with the hopes of one day returning to the Smith Corporation.
But, Percy had brought her into a life of ease from a life of hardship, and now she had to go back. Was it really no big deal?
...
The entire journey to the airport, Raymond was sulking, turning his head away and refusing to look at Percy or speak to him.
Percy stared at the familiar Bellshire City streets outside the car window, looking somewhat dazed.
Only when the car stopped in front of Bellshire International Airport did Raymond turn to Percy and say, "Father, you abruptly ended my first love!"
In the past, hearing such impertinent words from his son, Percy would have surely scoffed and ridiculed him. But at this moment, he felt a strange sadness in his heart. He looked at Raymond and said, "Not only did you lose your first love, I lost mine too."
