Chapter 388: Chapter 402: Overestimating Oneself, Underestimating Love (4)
Isabel went up the floors, her heart pounding with anxiety as the elevator emptied on the sixteenth floor, leaving her alone.
Unconscious as the elevator came to a stop, she was abruptly pulled back to reality by a familiar voice calling, "Sister Isabel."
Turning her head, she saw Percy Stanton standing at the elevator exit, holding Raymond Thompson by his collar.
Isabel was truly surprised by this unexpected encounter with Percy at such a moment.
She hadn’t seen him for many days; it had only been four days, but it felt like an eternity.
The man looked somewhat tired, with a short stubble on his chin, completely different from his usual elegant and refined image.
However, he still looked incredibly handsome, his eyes deep and captivating.
Gazing at Percy, Isabel didn’t know whether to smile and say hello or walk past him like a stranger.
They were not boyfriend and girlfriend, not even lovers; their relationship was essentially a mutual physical transaction that seemed to have ended, leaving no connection between them.
Moreover, even after a real breakup, former lovers would become strangers; their awkward and unmentionable relationship was no exception.
After thinking for a long time, Isabel still couldn’t figure out what she should do.
Percy was also looking deeply at Isabel; during these four days, he hadn’t seen her either. At this moment, he could tell by her worried look that something was wrong. Despite deciding to be apart, his heart, which felt dead for her, came alive again and he was concerned for her.
As a result, the hand holding Raymond’s collar loosened, causing Raymond to fall to the ground with a thud.
The sound jolted both Isabel and Percy back to reality.
Percy wanted to reach down and help Raymond up, but Isabel beat him to it. Worried, she bent down, picked Raymond up, and patted the non-existent dust off him while softly asking, "Raymond, does it hurt? Are you okay?"
Raymond’s pained eyes suddenly brightened, and he looked strong as he shook his head, saying, "Sister Isabel, I’m fine."
Despite her disagreements with Percy, Isabel was still as caring as ever towards Raymond. She raised her hand, rubbed his head, and softly said, "Raymond is so strong."
Raymond’s small face flushed slightly, and he raised his hand to hug Isabel’s neck, snuggling into her arms. Then, his rosy face suddenly turned sad: "Sister Isabel, I might have to say goodbye to you for a short time!"
"Are you going on a trip, Raymond?" Isabel asked, glancing at Percy, whose hands were empty and didn’t seem like he was prepared to leave town.
"Not a trip; I’m going home." Raymond pouted, his face full of regret: "Father doesn’t want to stay in Bellshire anymore. He wants to go back to Ravenwood City..." Raymond lowered his head, his voice muffled: "I have to go back with Father, and then it might be a long time before I can be with Sister Isabel again."
It took a while for Isabel to fully process the meaning of Raymond’s words after hearing them.
Without waiting for Isabel to speak, Raymond looked up, his eyes anxious as he said, "Before I go, Sister Isabel, there are some things I must say to you that I haven’t yet."
