Chapter 356: Chapter 368: Proposal Gift (2)
Percy Stanton stared at Evelyn Osbert’s face without speaking.
Looking at Percy in this state, Evelyn suddenly regretted what she had done.
She felt that Percy could very well strangle her to death at any moment.
But since she had gone this far, wouldn’t it be too unwilling for her to admit defeat and run away?
Moreover, the child in Isabel Smith’s womb is Percy’s, a secret only she knows. She has seen Percy’s child, who is lively and adorable. But how could she tell Percy this?
Wouldn’t she be fulfilling both Isabel’s and Percy’s wishes?
She wanted to use this opportunity to add to the troubles nestling in Percy’s heart.
Evelyn took a few hurried breaths, swallowed her fear, and continued in a low voice, "The child in her stomach might belong to the man she likes... Otherwise, when Grandma asked her about that man who deserved a thousand cuts, she wouldn’t say anything, perhaps because she was afraid to implicate him..."
Percy knew that if he loved someone, he had to trust her.
Love is based on trust.
Deep down, he was telling himself that Evelyn’s words might be nonsense, as she has always been on bad terms with Isabel. However, he couldn’t help but feel a fire rising within him.
Six years ago, Isabel had pursued him relentlessly, even inviting him to attend her adulthood ceremony banquet. So why did it turn out, according to Evelyn, that she had a child with another man she loved?
Percy stared at Evelyn, his breathing becoming more rapid. He felt a fire burning in his chest. He wanted to grab Evelyn’s neck and ask her if she was lying to him.
But why couldn’t he understand that Evelyn was trying to ruin his relationship with Isabel and laugh at him?
Being such a proud man, how could he possibly allow himself to lose face in front of an outsider?
Percy, seemingly infuriated, curled his lip into a smile. His smile was mesmerizing, but his eyes flickered with fire. His tone was as calm as ever: "Miss Evelyn, your story was quite riveting. Now that you’re done, shouldn’t you leave?"
"What I said wasn’t a story, but the truth..."
As Evelyn was about to say something more, Percy suddenly yelled in a deep voice, "Get out!"
Frightened, Evelyn immediately fell silent. Without daring to look at Percy, she quickly opened the car door and seemed to flee the vehicle.
Percy didn’t even wait for Evelyn to close the car door. He stepped on the gas pedal, turned the steering wheel, and sped out of the parking lot.
His speed was incredibly high, racing down the wide highway.
He stared straight ahead at the road, his face solemn. Yet, the words Evelyn had just spoken echoed in his ears.
He violently shook his head, trying to rid himself of her voice. But her words only became louder.
Isabel once loved a boy... Isabel once got pregnant... Isabel invited the boy she loved to attend her adulthood ceremony...
If everything Evelyn said was true, then what did he mean to Isabel six years ago?
Was he just a fleeting amusement for that wealthy young woman?
No wonder she didn’t remember him... No wonder she forgot him... Because the person she truly loved wasn’t him!
Percy’s expression became increasingly calm.
He thought that the moment he saw Isabel’s pregnancy photo at the banquet, his mood had hit rock bottom. That was when he felt the most devastated.
He admitted that he wasn’t magnanimous at the time... But then again, which person, madly in love, could be generous and magnanimous in matters of the heart?
