Chapter 353: Chapter 365: Life and Death Hanging by a Thread (43)

Although the Tea Shop wasn’t worth much money, for him, it was a connection between him and Isabel Smith. As for him, who had been alone for those six years, the Tea Shop was the only place he could anchor his thoughts.

When the banquet was almost over, Percy Stanton also walked out of the Bellshire Grand Hotel.

The winter night wind was somewhat chilling to the bone as it scraped against his body. He didn’t feel the cold at all. On the contrary, there was an unexplainable warmth stirring within him.

He stood under the neon lights outside the Bellshire Grand Hotel. As he reached out to touch his car keys, he accidentally brushed against the ring he had stored in his pocket. His heartbeat skipped a beat and the steady nerves he initially had, once again sparked up.

He transferred the car keys to his other hand, removing the ring box from his pocket. As he gently opened it, revealing the beautiful ring inside, it refracted a myriad of colors under the neon lights, causing Percy Stanton’s emotions to swell up a little in excitement.

Percy stared at the ring for quite some time before closing the box. He lifted his head, looking at the coming and going of cars on the road. Even though he hadn’t proposed yet, and there was no guarantee that the proposal would be successful, a faint sense of happiness welled up inside him.

Percy, upon moistening his lips, returned the velvet ring box into his pocket. He then sauntered towards his car, preparing to get in and wait for Isabel’s arrival.

...

At the signing ceremony between Smith Corporation and "Ten Mile Prosperity" tonight, the exposure of Isabel Smith’s pregnancy photos caught Elijah Smith off guard. For years, Elijah had been following Evelyn Osbert’s orders obediently. Suddenly, he coldly mocked and ridiculed her. This completely ruined her mood.

Among the attendees of tonight’s signing ceremony was a CEO whom she had an intricate relationship with. He even invited her to have a drink at the pub after the banquet. In the past, Evelyn would’ve accepted without a second thought. However, tonight, she had absolutely no interest and couldn’t even be bothered to put on her usual pretentious demeanor, promptly rejecting his invitation.

The CEO eyed Evelyn for a few moments before dialing a number on his phone, starting a conversation with a woman of an unknown name "Lilly" or "Laella", saying the same words he just said to Evelyn, "Do you have time, let’s go for a drink now to someplace?".

Evelyn didn’t hear what the woman on the other end of the phone said, but seeing the CEO’s grinning face as he responded, "Alright, darling, wait for me, I am coming to pick you up.".

After hanging up, the CEO let out a mocking sneer towards Evelyn as if she failed to appreciate his kindness. Then he turned around and walked away.

Evelyn’s already bad mood fell even further. Watching the CEO, whose attitude changed towards her once she no longer ingratiated herself to him, she stomped her foot angrily and, in annoyance, grabbed her bag and left the Bellshire Grand Hotel.

Evelyn had quite a lot of drinks at the banquet, which left her a bit tipsy. The biting cold wind against her face made her feel somewhat better. She stood under a street lamp, took her phone from her pocket to call someone for a ride. Accidentally, she caught a sight of a familiar figure not far from her. She then paused for a second, ended the call, and walked towards the figure.

Percy sat in his car, and nonchalantly turned on the car radio. The host’s mellow and pleasant voice immediately filled the car.

Percy leaned back in the seat, lazily closing his eyes, listening to the host’s humorous banter.

Suddenly, a sound came from the co-pilot’s car door. Percy turned his gaze only to see Evelyn Osbert lean in and sit down.
