Chapter 350: Chapter 362: Life and Death Hanging by a Thread (40)

Before Isabel Smith left the banquet with Mrs. Smith’s assistant, Evelyn Osbert happened to be standing at the entrance of the banquet hall, talking to Elijah Smith.

Evelyn still maintained her usual gentle smile, speaking to Elijah in a soft and spoiled tone, "Elijah, when do you have time recently?"

Elijah leaned against the wall, lazily raising his head to glance at Evelyn, then slowly swirled the wine in his glass, seeming somewhat indifferent. "Charlotte Green, what’s up?"

"Nothing much. You promised to take me to Hong Kong. Next week I happen to want to take annual leave. If you have time, we can go together," Evelyn’s tone was soft and gentle.

In the past, Elijah would have agreed without a second thought. But today, he couldn’t help but think of the words Isabel had said during their argument: "If I don’t take these away, do you expect me to just watch you spend all this on some frivolous woman?"

Elijah frowned, turned his head, glanced at Evelyn, and after a moment of silence, said, "I might not have time recently. You can find someone else to accompany you. I have final exams coming up."

Pausing, Elijah added, "Sorry, Charlotte Green."

"It’s fine," Evelyn showed no signs of anger or unhappiness. She hooked the corner of her lips and smiled, still retaining her unique gentle tone. "It’s just a trip to Hong Kong for fun, your studies are more important. But don’t forget to prepare a gift for me for Christmas next month!"

In the past, Evelyn often used various holidays as an excuse for Elijah to give her gifts.

He didn’t think much of it.

However, for some reason, today’s words seemed particularly harsh to Elijah, and his mood suddenly became irritable. He forced a smile at Evelyn and was about to stand up when he saw Isabel following Mrs. Smith’s assistant.

Without a doubt, Mrs. Smith must have wanted to see Isabel alone!

Elijah thought of the photo that had been exposed at the signing ceremony earlier and hurriedly straightened up, worried. He walked directly to Isabel and stopped right in front of her, "Grandma is looking for you?"

"Yes."

Considering Mrs. Smith’s temper, she was bound to be furious and scold Isabel!

Elijah’s frown deepened. He waved to a waiter not far away, then turned to Isabel and said, "Wait for me, I’ll put down my wine glass and go with you."

"Young Master, the old lady said she only wants to see Miss Isabel alone," Mrs. Smith’s assistant politely reminded him from the side.

Elijah’s face turned even uglier, but Isabel just smiled and said, "It’s okay, Elijah, you should go home early after the banquet."

Elijah stood still, looking unhappy. After a long while, he finally nodded and said, "Alright, but remember to call me later."

"Alright," Isabel agreed and then followed Mrs. Smith’s assistant towards the elevator.

Evelyn waited until Isabel was far away before she approached Elijah, wine glass in hand. "Elijah, is Grandma looking for Sister Isabel because of the photo incident just now?"

Elijah didn’t respond, just watched as Isabel’s figure disappeared behind the elevator door.

"Fortunately, Sister Isabel is smart enough to defuse the crisis on the spot. Otherwise, if it had gotten out, it would have ruined our Smith family’s reputation," said Evelyn.

Hearing Evelyn’s words, Elijah’s expression turned somber. He picked up his wine glass and chugged the wine down before turning to Evelyn and coldly asking, "Charlotte Green, was that photo of my sister released by you guys?"
