Chapter 336: Chapter 348: Life and Death Hanging by a Thread (26)

It was only after Raymond Thompson finished the "Happy Birthday" song that he pushed the cake cart and stood in front of Isabel Smith. He stepped around the cart, walked before Isabel, raised his head, looked sincerely at her, and said, "Sister Isabel, Father said you were busy awhile back and didn’t have time to celebrate your birthday, so tonight we’ll make it up to you."

Birthday?

Her birthday had passed more than a month ago. She hadn’t celebrated her birthday for six years. How were they going to make it up now?

Isabel Smith widened her eyes, looking at Raymond Thompson in front of her, unable to speak.

Percy Stanton had already risen from the piano and held a large bunch of purple lilacs, which he had preordered from the restaurant. He walked up to Isabel, placed the lilacs in her hand, smiled at her, and said, "Isabel, happy birthday."

An indescribable whirlwind of emotions swept over Isabel Smith, flooding her heart with waves of unexpected joy.

Tonight, too many surprises awaited her. First Elizabeth Wood’s concert, and now, her first birthday celebration after six years.

It had been many years since she had been so surprised and moved.

In these six years, she had experienced many things other girls her age hadn’t. She had learned not to cry so easily. But now, looking at the candlelit cake before her, and seeing Percy Stanton, with light shining on him from the glittering fragments in his hair and on his shoulders, and the lilacs strewn with silver specks in his arms, tears welled up in her eyes.

She knew that in these six years, she’d had too little warmth and too much cold.

Her birthday marked the beginning of her disaster. She had always been afraid to celebrate, but she yearned to have a happy birthday.

Now, the warmth she had longed for was suddenly pushed before her by Percy Stanton, making her sink into it, unable to extricate herself and even lose all her reason. Forgetting for a moment the tragic association of her birthday and her parents’ death, she decided to selfishly enjoy the warmth and happiness Percy Stanton had meticulously prepared for her.

Isabel Smith tried to smile at Percy Stanton, but couldn’t. Although she was very happy, she could only raise her eyebrows and struggle to articulate her gratitude. Eventually, she raised her hand, took the lilacs that Percy Stanton had given her, and with tears in her eyes, laughed with joy.

Isabel Smith felt ashamed to have cried. When she was younger, she’d been confessed to on campus radio for ten minutes, and once had 9,999 roses spread before her dormitory building. Back then, she’d scoffed and been disdainful.

Now, she was moved to tears.

With one hand holding the lilacs, she raised her other to wipe her cheeks, looked at Percy Stanton, and laughed beautifully, "So, you had all of this planned in advance."

Under the revolving restaurant’s dim blue light, Percy Stanton’s remarkable face appeared more angular and chiseled.

He only looked tenderly at Isabel Smith and smiled without saying anything.

Raymond Thompson raised his head, took Isabel Smith’s hand, and asked, "Sister Isabel, do you like this surprise?"

"I do!" Isabel Smith nodded her head, looking genuinely thrilled, and repeated firmly, "I like it very much!"

"Sister Isabel, the candles are almost burnt out. You need to make a wish!" Raymond Thompson pointed at the cake next to them, grabbed Isabel Smith’s hand, and led her to the cake.
