Chapter 328: Chapter 340: Life and Death Hang in the Balance (18)

The water that Elijah Smith spewed out of his mouth splashed onto Raymond Thompson’s face. Raymond wrinkled his adorable features in an expression of disgust, then raised his hand reluctantly to wipe his face dry. Finally, his clear eyes turned back to study Elijah’s expression, taking his time to say, "Younger Brother, I understand that this may be a difficult reality for you to accept, but it’s the truth. I really like Sister Isabel, and I can tell that she likes me too. Although there might be an age discrepancy between Sister Isabel and me, I believe that as long as there’s true love, age doesn’t matter!"

"Younger Brother?"

It took a moment for Elijah Smith to recover from the surprise of being addressed this way, rather than "Uncle" as he was used to. He choked once again and began to cough even more violently, his face flushing red.

Had he heard correctly? Was this five-year-old child discussing true love with him—a twenty-year-old man who didn’t believe true love existed in this world?

Were kids born in the new millennium maturing this quickly?

After a while, Elijah recovered enough to respond, his lips curling into a forced smile. He said with exaggerated politeness, "This is not a question of true love. It’s just that... you two really aren’t suitable for each other."

"Why aren’t Sister Isabel and I suitable?" Raymond Thompson frowned, seemingly upset with Elijah’s dismissal. He began to ramble about his understanding, "Love doesn’t have an age gap. Even I, at my young age, understand this. Don’t tell me that you, a grown man, don’t get it?"

Elijah’s face turned green – was he being looked down upon by a five-year-old?

This was the most embarrassing thing he had ever experienced!

This would be a debacle if his buddies in Bellshire City ever hear about it.

Elijah usually didn’t argue with children but he found himself engaging Raymond, "Kid, are you looking down on me? You think you understand these philosophies more than I do? I’ve slept with more women than you’ve ever met. And you think you know what it means to love someone?"

Raymond looked at Elijah as if he was a fool and said, "I know what it is to like someone, just like how I like Sister Isabel!"

"What you’re feeling isn’t liking!" exasperated, Elijah replied, "You’re way too young for this. You’re even too young for hormones to kick-in. By the time you grow up, Isabel would be an old woman. She could hardly be your girlfriend, maybe she’d be more of a mom to you!"

Just stepping out of the bathroom after a shower and wearing a nightgown, Isabel startled at Elijah’s words. At first, Isabel was a little lost in their discussion about "hormones", a topic far beyond Raymond’s level. But then she heard Elijah’s unflattering comment about her being a "haggard old woman". Instantly, Isabel grabbed a cushion off the sofa and hurled it towards Elijah, yelling furiously, "Elijah Smith! Are you calling me a haggard old woman?"

Elijah hadn’t noticed Isabel come out of the bedroom, and got hit on the head by a cushion. He quickly snapped out of his surprise, raised his hand to block the second pillow that Isabel hurled at him.

"Are you trying to provoke me? How dare you call me a haggard old woman!" Isabel lashed out at Elijah, her foot connecting solidly with his back. The force toppled him off the sofa and onto the floor.

Raymond, standing to the side, also gaped at the scene unfolding before his eyes.
