Chapter 321: Chapter 333: Life and Death Hang in the Balance (11)
A single man and a single woman in a room together, and he even brought her home late at night. What kind of relationship could it be?
Isabel Smith felt that everything was so clear, and there was no need for her to think about it.
She and Percy Stanton were bound by a contract, and she had no right to question his relationships with other women, but she felt so uncomfortable deep down. Even more so, she had an impulse to go to the adjoining room and see for herself what the two were doing now?
Kissing? Hugging? Or going to bed?
As Isabel thought about it, she couldn’t bear it any longer. She felt that she should do something, she couldn’t just keep lying in bed with all these wild thoughts troubling her, she would go crazy!
Isabel suddenly threw off the quilt and sat up.
Elijah Smith, sitting on the sofa, was startled by Isabel’s sudden movement and accidentally dropped the remote control. He picked it up and asked, "Isabel, what’s wrong?"
Isabel didn’t respond at all to Elijah’s question, instead she got off the bed and walked over to the TV, which was already set up with a CD of her favorite songs. She hit play and squatted down in front of the TV, listening to the familiar tunes. She quickly grabbed a microphone from a drawer, and plugged it into the VCD. Her fingers were unsteady, and it took her several attempts before she got the microphone connected. She then stood up, struck a sultry pose, and said, "Now, please enjoy an exclusive performance by Isabel Smith for Sir Elijah Smith!"
The CD began to play a classic old song, Charles Goodwin’s "Should I Leave Quietly," which she sang, seemingly reading the lyrics on the TV screen despite already knowing them by heart.
Isabel’s voice was exceptionally soft and tender, bringing a unique flavor to this heartfelt classic.
She sang one song after another, covering various styles, including some lighthearted online songs, which she sang in silly voices.
It seemed like Isabel would never tire, singing one song after the other, until she performed Grace Taylor’s "See My 72 Changes" with its accompanying dance moves. By the end of the song, she was panting and sat on the carpet, clutching the microphone as she waited for the next song to begin.
By this time, Elijah had already noticed that something was off with Isabel. He stood up from the sofa, walked over to her, and pulled her to her feet, saying, "Alright, that’s enough singing for tonight. It’s time to rest."
Isabel raised her eyes, looking intently at Elijah with her pair of large, bright eyes. After a moment, she nodded, then shook her head, suddenly pushing him away before running out of the room in her pajamas, not even bothering to put on shoes.
Enough is enough!
She never was the type to restrain herself. She had repressed her true nature for so long, pretending to be the sophisticated and refined version of herself that she didn’t even like.
She was tired of holding it in for so long and didn’t want to endure it any more tonight!
Although she couldn’t understand why she didn’t like the idea of Percy being alone in a room with another woman, if it bothered her, she might as well go and interrupt them!
With this thought in mind, Isabel started running faster, opening the door of her apartment and rushing out into the hallway.
...
Ella Adams gathered her belongings and saw that it was late. She had classes the next morning at school, so she proposed to leave.
