Chapter 320: Chapter 332: Life and Death Hang in the Balance (10)
When the hangover soup was almost finished, Doctor Daniel arrived.
Percy stood up, handed the empty bowl to Elijah Smith, and turned Isabel around to expose her back to Doctor Daniel.
Doctor Daniel raised his hand and pressed on Isabel’s back. When he touched the newly healed wound, Isabel suddenly burst into tears from the pain. Doctor Daniel then said, "It seems not too serious now, but I’m worried about infection from drinking too much wine. I’ll give her an injection."
Doctor Daniel took out some medicine from the medical box he brought, filled the needle and then lifted Isabel’s pajama sleeve at her shoulder. He wiped her skin with an alcohol cotton ball and, without warning, inserted the needle.
Isabel screamed in pain and her body wanted to jump up. Afraid the needle would break inside her shoulder, Percy hurriedly raised his hand to hold her down. In pain, Isabel’s tears fell, and she turned her head, biting hard on Percy’s arm near her ear.
Percy’s face turned pale from the pain. He endured the urge to pull his hand away, watching Doctor Daniel remove the needle before quickly moving his arm away from Isabel’s mouth.
A round set of tooth marks was plainly visible on Percy’s arm, with blood seeping through some of them.
You’re like a dog!
Percy cursed Isabel in his heart, then looked up at Doctor Daniel and said, "Thank you for making the trip."
Doctor Daniel smiled as he packed up his things and said, "No need to be polite, Mr. Stanton. Be sure to pay attention to Miss Smith’s diet these days."
Percy nodded and stood up to see Doctor Daniel out.
"No need to see me out, Mr. Stanton," Doctor Daniel said as he reached the bedroom doorway. In parting, he added, "Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with Miss Smith."
Percy glanced back at Isabel, who was lying on the bed with red-rimmed eyes from the injection, and said coldly, "It’s not like I’m the one hurt and drunk. What do I have to worry about!"
Doctor Daniel chuckled at Percy’s harsh, insincere words, said goodbye, and turned to leave.
Percy watched as Doctor Daniel left the apartment before returning to the bedroom where Isabel lay on the bed, covering the arm that had been injected, looking wronged.
Percy bent down, pulled the quilt over Isabel, and asked, "Do you feel better after getting the shot?"
Isabel had drunk the hangover soup and was no longer as befuddled as before. Hearing Percy’s sarcastic tone, she turned her face away, closed her eyes, and refused to respond.
Percy stared at Isabel for a while, then snorted and turned to Elijah, saying, "Take care of her for a while. I need to go check things out."
After saying that, Percy left.
Elijah settled on the sofa, thinking Isabel was asleep. He took the remote control and switched on the TV, keeping the volume low, and found a television station that he liked.
With her eyes closed, lying on the bed, Isabel could faintly hear the very soft song playing on the TV. It didn’t disturb her sleep, but she couldn’t fall asleep. Having drunk so much wine, she felt slightly nauseous and had a splitting headache, but her spirits were revived by Percy’s words "I need to go check things out."
Despite being drunk, she still had blurry recollections of what was happening around her. She vaguely knew that the woman had gone to Percy’s home.
Percy was in such a hurry to get back there; it must be to accompany her, right? Was the woman staying at Percy’s place tonight? What was their relationship?
As Isabel thought about it, her heart grew increasingly uncomfortable. Unable to help herself, she opened her eyes. The effects of the alcohol had not entirely dissipated from her body, causing her vision to blur. She could vaguely see the large white expanse that was a wall in front of her.
