Chapter 313: Chapter 325: Life and Death Hang in the Balance (3)
Isabel, too, was panting heavily from the run. She swallowed hard, catching her breath, pointed at a courtyard house at the end of the alleyway, and said, "There, there!"
Elijah Smith, following Isabel’s pointing finger, looked over and then rolled his eyes, squatted down, and put Isabel’s shoes in front of her: "That’s a private club. I used to come here with a couple of friends. You just got discharged from the hospital and now you’re trying to go clubbing? Let’s go, I need to take you home to rest now!"
As Elijah Smith was helping Isabel put her shoes on, he grumbled: "What were you thinking, running around barefoot in the middle of the night? What if you step on a piece of glass or something?"
Isabel didn’t answer, just kept her eyes on the rather nondescript courtyard house at the end of the alleyway, not even blinking.
When she chased after Percy into the alleyway, she saw him enter the courtyard house with another woman. Before they went in, the woman seemed to be hanging half her body onto Percy, laughing heartily.
She couldn’t really explain her own urge to chase after them, but after seeing such a scene, she was left with an indescribable emptiness.
Looking at Elijah Smith who had tied her shoes and got up, she pursed her lips and said, "Elijah, let’s go inside for a bit, okay?"
Elijah Smith frowned at Isabel Smith for a moment, then finally capitulated, "Alright, but only for a little while."
Isabel nodded vigorously, like a pecking chick, then swiveled, her high heels clicking as she headed towards the courtyard house at the end of the alleyway.
Elijah Smith followed her, though she thought he was too slow. She impatiently turned around, grabbed his arm and dragged him quickly into the courtyard house.
Once inside the courtyard house, Isabel came to understand what the term ’a whole new world’ truly means.
The yard of the courtyard house was filled with lush potted plants, and only a winding stone path led to the house itself.
As soon as Isabel and Elijah entered, a waiter greeted them warmly, leading them to a soft sofa by the window and presenting the menu, asking in a polite voice: "May I ask, sir and miss, what do you need?"
Isabel didn’t bother to look at the menu, instead her eyes scanned the bar. After a while, she spotted Percy with his back to her, sitting with the woman in a secluded corner.
Why would they sit next to each other instead of facing one another?
Isabel mumbled to herself in her mind, then heard Elijah Smith’s voice: "Isabel, what would you like to drink?"
Isabel didn’t respond to Elijah, her eyes were firmly fixed on Percy.
Elijah Smith waited for a while, then raised his hand and waved it in front of Isabel. She slapped his hand away without hesitation: "Stop annoying me!"
Elijah made a "tch" sound, turned his head, and ordered a "Purple Sweet Potato Milk" for Isabel and a cocktail for himself from the waiter.
After the waiter left, Elijah continued to speak to Isabel, but she ignored him completely. Eventually, Elijah Smith just shut up, put his head down, and started to play on his mobile phone.
It’s not clear what Percy and the girl were doing. They were moving closer together, and even had his arm securely around her shoulders.
From Isabel’s perspective, it seemed like Percy was hugging her.
An indescribable emotion tumbled around in Isabel’s heart. She found the sight in front of her incredibly disturbing, yet she couldn’t stop staring. As she kept watching, the urge to rush over and kick Percy’s arm off the girl grew stronger and stronger.
