Chapter 305: Chapter 317: Unexpected Encounter at the Horse Field (19)

Mrs. Smith had been strict with her son and grandson her whole life. Over time, she developed an austere image as if she couldn’t care about her own children.

She was worried about the danger Isabel was in; but now, with Sebastian and Carla guarding Evelyn, and Percy guarding Isabel, she couldn’t ignore Smith Corporation’s affairs and had to attend to them.

Having just been mocked by Percy, she felt a little embarrassed. Seeing that Isabel only called her "Grandma" and then remained silent, she didn’t know what to say, and so the whole infirmary grew more somber.

After a long while, Mrs. Smith stood up and said to the Isabel on the bed, "Rest well, I need to go now."

Isabel nodded her head and after a while said, "Grandma, be careful on your way."

Mrs. Smith nodded slightly, took one last look at Isabel and turned around. She left the infirmary and, guided by the driver, left the hospital.

...

Perhaps it was because Mrs. Smith had visited Isabel during the daytime, but that night, after being transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the VIP Ward, Isabel had a nightmare.

It was a nightmare, but more like a daydream driven by her thoughts and fears.

The scene in Isabel’s mind was simple: she accidentally slipped and fell off a cliff. In her panic, she reached up and grabbed a tree branch. Due to her weight, the branch was becoming increasingly unstable, as if it would break at any moment.

Fearful, Isabel stared at the branch and cried out for help.

Because of her cries, several people came: Sebastian, Evelyn, Carla, Mrs. Smith, and Elijah.

Sebastian, Evelyn, and Carla stood at the edge of the cliff, looking down at her, mocking and taunting her.

Isabel nervously looked to Mrs. Smith, but she just stood there with a cold, emotionless face.

Elijah, however, stared at her with a hesitant expression.

The tree branch began to crack, making creaking noises that sent Isabel into a panic. She looked down at the seemingly bottomless abyss and, with increasing dread in her heart, screamed, "Grandma, Elijah, save me! Grandma, Elijah... "

She cried out so forcefully it seemed as if her throat would tear.

But Mrs. Smith and Elijah still wore the same expressions on their faces.

With a smug look on her face, Evelyn said, "Isabel, Grandma and Elijah won’t save you!"

Following Evelyn’s words, Sebastian’s family laughed even more joyously.

And then, amidst the laughter, the tree branch suddenly snapped, causing Isabel to plummet rapidly into the abyss.

The speed of her fall was incredibly fast; she could hear the whooshing of the wind as it blew past her, making her heart feel like it was about to stop beating.

She didn’t know how deep the abyss was – it seemed bottomless, and her fall, no matter how fast, could not be stopped. Just when she thought she couldn’t take it anymore, she couldn’t help but scream in an attempt to ease her discomfort. But it was of no help.

Just as she was about to despair, suddenly a majestic eagle soared from afar and caught her falling body. Tears of gratitude filled Isabel’s eyes, but before she could speak, the eagle suddenly called out to her, "Isabel, Isabel?"

The voice was beautiful and somewhat familiar.

It seemed like she had heard it somewhere before but couldn’t quite remember where. Isabel was puzzled.

The next second, the eagle somehow embraced her and said, "Isabel, what’s wrong? Isabel, wake up..."
