Percy Stanton nodded, not saying anything.

The doctor smiled at Percy Stanton, then left the infirmary with the other doctors.

The room became quiet again. Percy Stanton looked over at Isabel Smith lying on the hospital bed. She happened to meet his gaze, and they looked at each other for a moment. Isabel thought about her distant relationship with Percy Stanton and lowered her eyelids.

Percy Stanton looked at Isabel Smith’s face for a long while, then moved his lips but didn’t know what to say.

Suddenly, the room became even quieter.

After an unknown amount of time, Percy Stanton walked to the bedside, lifted his hand, and gently adjusted the quilt for Isabel Smith.

His hand happened to touch Isabel Smith’s collarbone. She looked up at him, and he paused, then casually finished covering her with the quilt before asking, "Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"

Isabel Smith shook her head.

Percy Stanton didn’t say anything, just silently sat down in a chair next to the bed.

Isabel Smith had just woken up from a serious injury and was feeling listless. She wanted to sleep, but knowing that she had not changed her sanitary napkin all night and that it was uncomfortably wet made her unable to sleep. She also wanted to use the restroom.

There was only Percy Stanton in the infirmary. Isabel Smith rolled her eyes and glanced at him several times. Finally, she couldn’t stand it any longer and called out, "Percy Stanton?"

He quickly turned his head and looked at her, "What’s wrong?"

Isabel Smith cleared her throat, not looking at Percy Stanton, her voice soft, "Well... I might need you to help me buy some things... My period has come, and I don’t have any sanitary napkins..."

Isabel Smith became more and more embarrassed as she spoke, but she had already started, so she looked directly at Percy Stanton and bluntly said the rest, "Could you go buy me a pack of sanitary napkins?"

Percy Stanton listened to her words with a calm expression, then stood up, put on his clothes, and prepared to leave the room. Isabel Smith suddenly added, "And underwear."

Percy Stanton didn’t ask any more questions. He just opened the door, went out, and then gently closed it.

When the room was quiet again, Isabel Smith opened her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked around the empty infirmary. She felt a faint sense of loss deep within her heart.

She didn’t know if it was because she was injured, but she felt especially vulnerable and helpless. She was used to relying on others, and though she had little conversation with Percy Stanton just now, she didn’t feel sad inside.

Now, alone in the cold, white hospital room, surrounded by icy detection instruments, she felt an inexplicable fear and panic.

Moreover, she was the daughter of the Smith family. When she first woke up, she saw not her family but Percy Stanton.

Suddenly, Isabel Smith’s heart didn’t feel good at all.
