Chapter 296: Chapter 308: Unexpected Encounter at the Horse Field (10)
The white strip chicken had been frozen for quite some time, becoming hard and stiff. Elijah Smith couldn’t chop it open and ended up getting the knife stuck in the chicken’s body, unable to remove it.
"Young Master, what are you chopping the chicken for? Are you making chicken soup? Let me handle these things." The housekeeper hurriedly walked in, grabbed the knife-wielding chicken, forcefully removed the knife, threw the chicken into the sink, and said, "Young Master, you should first defrost the chicken in warm water so it’ll be easier to chop."
Elijah Smith responded with an "oh" and then grabbed some green vegetables nearby, cutting them haphazardly with the knife.
"Young Master, let me handle the cooking, you just need to give the orders." The housekeeper soaked the white strip chicken in water and quickly took the knife from Elijah’s hand, skillfully cutting the vegetables neatly.
At this time, other servants had woken up, heard the noise in the kitchen, and quickly came running to help.
Elijah Smith furrowed his eyebrows and said, "You all stay out of it, let me do it myself."
As Elijah spoke, he took the knife from the housekeeper, grabbed the now-defrosted white strip chicken, and started chopping it up again.
Growing up, Elijah Smith had never done any work in the kitchen. Now, as he chopped the chicken ’thump, thump, thump’, the people aroundhim were worried that he would accidentally hurt himself.
Everyone stood cautiously around Elijah, watching him chop the whole chicken into unequal sizes. They hurriedly prepared to help, but he grabbed some water himself, washed the chicken thoroughly, and, according to the housekeeper’s instructions, put the chicken in a stew pot with water and some condiments and set it on high heat to cook.
The housekeeper, afraid that Elijah would keep messing around in the kitchen indefinitely, told him to pay attention to the heat of the chicken soup. He then called over the other servants, and they stir-fried a few dishes using the vegetables and meats that Elijah had selected.
As the servants were serving the dish, Elijah suddenly looked up from the chicken soup and said, "Don’t put it on a plate, put it in a food box."
The housekeeper was puzzled and asked, "Who are you cooking for, Young Master?"
Elijah Smith turned his head awkwardly, didn’t say a word, and just stared at the chicken soup, asking, "Is it ready yet? Is it ready?"
"Young Master, don’t worry, the longer the chicken soup is cooked, the more delicious it will be."
"Oh." Elijah Smith replied and continued to bend over, staring at the stew pot with the chicken soup.
About half an hour later, the chicken soup was finally ready. Elijah Smith ordered the servants to pour the chicken soup into a thermal box, then he carried the thermal box with one hand and the food box with the other, heading out the door.
After a few steps, Elijah suddenly stopped, turned to the servants, and asked, "What day of the week is it today?"
"Tuesday."
Elijah Smith frowned, looked at the time, took out his mobile phone from his pocket, and made a call: "Do we have class this morning?"
"Young Master Smith, you’re still going to class?"
"Damn, I don’t have time to joke around. Just tell me if I have class or not!"
"Yes, it’s been half an hour since class started."
Elijah Smith didn’t say anything else and hung up the phone.
Actually, he wanted to go to the hospital and deliver the food to Isabel Smith himself, but he didn’t know how to face her when she woke up.
Every time he thought about the scene of Isabel nearly dying last night, he became especially weak-hearted. He was afraid of seeing disappointment in the depths of her eyes.
So for now, he would start with doing what he could - becoming a good student as Isabel wished. He would dutifully attend class!
Elijah Smith then stared at the food box and the thermal box for a while, hesitated for a moment, turned around, and said to the housekeeper, "Well, Benjamin, I need to ask you a favor. Can you help me deliver these items to Room 504 in the Intensive Care Unit of People’s Hospital, XX District?"
