When Elijah Smith emerged from the restroom, his eyes were still red. The operation room where Isabel Smith was located had dimmed. Elijah Smith didn’t say anything but just nodded to the nurse, turned around, and stumbled down the stairs. On his way, he bumped into several people, not even apologizing, and quickly dashed down the staircase heading towards the intensive care unit.

He had forgotten to ask which room Isabel Smith was in, so he just looked through the small windows on the doors one by one. Finally, in the innermost intensive care room, he saw Isabel Smith laying quietly on the bed.

Her face was covered with an oxygen mask, and her wrists were wrapped with thin needles.

She lay there lifeless, motionless. If it weren’t for the beeping of the monitoring equipment next to her, Elijah Smith would have thought that he was looking at a corpse.
