Chapter 284: Chapter 296: The Repeated Confessions (33)

Evelyn Osbert stayed in a VIP ward, and by the time Elijah Smith arrived, Sebastian Smith and Carla Osbert had already rushed over, fussing over their precious daughter.

Mrs. Smith sat on the sofa in the living room outside the suite, a worried look on her face. Upon seeing him enter, she spoke first, "Elijah, I don’t know how your older sister is doing!"

Her words made Elijah Smith’s expression fade. He forced a smile at Mrs. Smith and said, "Grandma, don’t worry; Isabel will be alright."

Mrs. Smith didn’t speak, just sighed, clearly anxious.

Evelyn Osbert’s wounds had already been treated, and she lay on the bed, eating an apple that Carla Osbert had peeled for her.

Sebastian Smith was making a phone call, ordering Evelyn’s favorite dinner.

The three of them looked so harmonious together.

Elijah Smith often saw such harmonious scenes with Sebastian Smith’s family. When he first lost his parents and Isabel left him, he was only thirteen years old. He was not without envy and sorrow. But as he grew older, he became numb at heart.

Yet at this moment, seeing such a scene and thinking how Evelyn and Isabel were both injured at the same time - one of them was fine, and the other’s life was hanging in the balance, being rescued - and the one who was fine had people with her while the one whose life was in danger had no one asking after her, his heart suddenly felt suffocated and uncomfortable, as if he was lacking oxygen.

Having ordered dinner for Evelyn and provided their specific hospital room, Sebastian Smith hung up the phone and finally noticed Elijah Smith standing at the door. He smiled at Elijah Smith and said, "Elijah, you’re here?"

Carla Osbert and Evelyn Osbert then turned their heads one after another.

Elijah Smith called out to Sebastian Smith, "Uncle."

"Elijah, sit down, don’t just stand there," Carla Osbert put the apple knife back on the table, turned around, and asked Elias somewhat displeasedly, "Elijah, what on earth happened at the horse field? How could our Evelyn’s back be whipped by Isabel."

"Mom, I already told you, it was an accident while Elijah and I were fooling around. I accidentally hit Sister Isabel’s horse, causing her to fall, and the whip in her hand hit me. In the end, it’s all my fault," Evelyn Osbert, with her injured back, couldn’t turn around to lie down. Instead, she propped herself up on one elbow, speaking somewhat angrily to Carla Osbert.

"But Evelyn, the wound on your back is so deep; a girl with a beautiful back leaving a scar would be so unsightly!" Carla Osbert’s tone was especially unhappy when confronted with her daughter’s insistence on taking the blame.

Mrs. Smith frowned and said suddenly, "No one wants this kind of accident to happen. Besides, Evelyn just suffered some flesh wounds, whereas Isabel is still in the operating room and her life hangs in the balance. At a time like this, does it make sense to pursue who’s right and who’s wrong?"

Sebastian Smith glared at his wife and said to Mrs. Smith, "Mom, don’t worry, Isabel is my niece, and I will definitely make sure the hospital has the best doctors to save her. She will be fine."

Carla Osbert seemed to fear both Mrs. Smith and Sebastian Smith. After hearing their words, her displeased expression receded, and she gave Mrs. Smith a not particularly sincere smile, saying, "You’re right, I’ve been foolish. But Evelyn is my daughter, after all, and my heart aches for her, that’s why I spoke like that."

Mrs. Smith still looked serious and said nothing.

Evelyn Osbert beckoned to Elijah Smith and said, "Elijah, come here."

Elijah Smith hesitated for a moment before walking over.

Evelyn Osbert raised her hand, took Elijah Smith’s hand, and forced herself to sit up. Then she looked Elijah up and down, concerned, and asked, "Elijah, are you hurt?"
