Chapter 280: Chapter 292: The Repeated Confessions (29)

"What were you doing just now? When she fell, why didn’t you catch her first?"

Though somewhat distant, Percy Stanton could still see everything that had happened here very clearly.

"She could risk her life to block a frenzied horse’s hooves for you, and yet, what were you doing?" Percy Stanton said while leaning down to pick up Isabel Smith into his arms.

The girl’s hand hung limply, not as in the past when she would lift it up in fear of falling and tightly wrap it around his neck.

Percy Stanton’s hands unconsciously tightened around Isabel Smith, and the usually calm, indifferent gentleman could no longer control himself as he turned and spoke to Elijah Smith. "Elijah Smith, in this world, only a fool like you with no discernment can’t tell who is good and who is bad!"

The more Percy Stanton spoke, the more agitated he became. He couldn’t tell whether it was the uncertainty of Isabel’s life and death that had thrown him off balance, but he felt a surge of anger that he couldn’t vent. He stared at Elijah Smith, whom he had kicked to the ground, and spoke deliberately, "Elijah Smith, if it weren’t for the fact that you’re Isabel’s younger brother, I would have made you suffer worse than death the night you abandoned her at the Magnificent!"

"The only reason you’re still alive and well today is that you’re her younger brother!"

"Let me tell you, Elijah Smith, if anything happens to her, I’ll definitely kill you and have you buried alongside her!"

If you can’t be a good brother to her in the Sunlit World, then go to the Underworld and accompany her there!

"What right do you have to speak to our brother like that. . ." Evelyn Osbert’s tear-stained tender face showed dissatisfaction as she questioned Percy Stanton aloud.

No sooner had her words fallen when Percy Stanton, still holding Isabel Smith, suddenly turned and stared straight at Evelyn Osbert. His cold, angry voice followed, "And, Miss Evelyn, what have you done to her to make her like this right now?!"

Evelyn Osbert never imagined Percy Stanton would directly question her role in Isabel’s current condition. Subconsciously looking at Mrs. Smith, she feigned innocence and said, "Mr. Stanton, you need to be responsible for your words. What evidence do you have to slander me, accusing me of harming Sister Isabel?"

Percy Stanton, as if hearing a very amusing joke, smirked coldly and stared aggressively at Evelyn Osbert with sharp, terrifying eyes. In a forceful tone, he said, "Miss Evelyn, do you really think I’m an idiot like Elijah Smith, to be led around by the nose with just a few words from you?"

"Now, let me make it crystal clear to you: if anything happens to Isabel Smith, you won’t escape either!"

Faced with Percy Stanton’s threat, Evelyn Osbert gritted her teeth and eked out a question, "What right do you have to threaten me--"

Percy Stanton suddenly strode menacingly towards Evelyn Osbert, who fell to her knees in fear and backed away. However, Percy Stanton, still holding Isabel’s hand, leaned down and grabbed Evelyn’s long hair, lifting her head high and staring down at her eyes.

Percy Stanton’s expression was like a toxic poppy blooming in the dead of night - stunning, yet dangerously lethal.

Evelyn Osbert could see the bottomless darkness in Percy Stanton’s eyes, and it left her unable to fathom his true emotions.

"What right do I have to threaten you?" Percy Stanton repeated her words softly, clearly speaking them gently, yet they carried an earth-shattering violence, seeping out bit by bit. "Miss Evelyn, I am not threatening you; I am telling you the fact."

"Because you are not even worth me threatening."
