Chapter 273: Chapter 285: The Repeated Confessions (22)
Percy Stanton drew a sarcastic smile at the corner of his mouth, mocking his son’s wild imagination in his heart.
Raymond Thompson, his face heavy with gloom, fell into silence and thought for a bit. Then, as if he’d just run into a massive hurdle, he let out a deep sigh, turned to Percy, and lamented with a pitiful expression, "Father, it would have been great if you and my test-tube mother had brought me into this world a little earlier."
Percy stiffened in surprise, pulling up on the reins and coming to a standstill.
Raymond rode forward a couple of steps, turned his horse around, and trotted back to Percy. Looking up at his father, he seriously asked, "It really is a pity, isn’t it, Father?"
Pity your sister—!
Percy cursed Raymond in his heart, then looked at his son who, despite sitting on a pony, was still much shorter than him. He said, "Raymond, why don’t you take a leisurely trot for a bit? I need to use the restroom."
...
"Really splendid, terrific." Returning back on horseback with Isabel Smith, CEO Wood jumped off his horse, continuously showering Isabel with praises, "Miss Smith, today I’ve thoroughly seen how truly rare it is for a woman to be both gorgeous and capable like you."
Isabel Smith accepted CEO Wood’s compliments gracefully and responded with a laugh, "You’re not too bad yourself, CEO Wood."
Overjoyed at Isabel’s praise, CEO Wood was about to carry on the conversation when Evelyn Osbert, leading her horse, walked over. She placed herself next to CEO Wood, turned to look at him, and said coquettishly, "CEO Wood, now that you’ve finished your race with Sister Isabel, shouldn’t it be my turn?"
Isabel saw right through Evelyn’s maneuver. In Evelyn’s world, any place she was in, the eyes of the men could only be on her.
As far as CEO Wood was concerned, Isabel had no interest in vying with Evelyn. Handing the reins to the stableman, she said to CEO Wood, "I’m quite tired, CEO Wood. I’m going to rest a bit. I wish you an enjoyable race."
...
Isabel found a spot near the floor-to-ceiling window in the lounge and sat down. Turning her head, she could see the view of the horse field outside.
Soon, a waiter came inquiring if she wanted anything to drink. Isabel requested a glass of warm water.
Wearing a soft smile, the waiter retreated, and before long, brought Isabel a glass of water.
As Isabel sipped her warm water, sitting on the soft sofa, she watched the crowd of riders on the horse field through the window. Evelyn and CEO Wood had already started their race, while Elijah Smith was strolling aimlessly on horseback in the distance, seemingly lost in thought.
After resting for a while, Isabel summoned the waiter and had him bring her the bag she had checked in earlier. She took out a sanitary napkin from the tote and headed for the restroom.
On the second day of her period, Isabel changed her sanitary napkin, due to the activities on horseback earlier leading to a heavier flow. Upon leaving the restroom, in a stroke of pure chance, Percy happened to be coming out of the men’s room opposite hers as well.
They collided face to face.
Isabel stood right outside the women’s restroom, paused for a moment, and fixed her gaze on Percy’s strikingly handsome face. She hesitated for a moment, about to give him a polite smile and say hello.
Percy, however, indifferently turned away and walked to the washbasin. He placed his hands under the motion-sensor faucet in an elegant manner, washing his hands unhurriedly.
The greeting Isabel had been about to deliver got stuck in her throat. She stood for two seconds at the women’s restroom door, staring at Percy’ s back. Then she walked over to another washbasin, stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him, and began washing her hands.
Not many people were using the restroom. Aside from Percy and Isabel, there was no one else at the sinks. Neither of them spoke, the only sound the water gurgling from the faucet.
