Chapter 271: Chapter 283: The Repeated Confessions (20)
Today was the weekend, and there were quite a few people at the horse field. When Isabel Smith led her horse to the field, CEO Wood, Elijah Smith, and Evelyn Osbert were already on their horses, ready to go.
Evelyn was positioned between CEO Wood and Elijah Smith, seated high upon a red-brown horse. Below her black helmet was a delicate, flower-like smiling face. Turning her head, she looked at CEO Wood, constantly talking and laughing as if very happy.
CEO Wood didn’t seem very talkative and simply smiled appropriately in response to Evelyn’s chatter. His gaze constantly circled the horse field, and as soon as he saw Isabel coming with her horse, a spark flashed in his eyes. Without paying any attention to Evelyn’s ongoing conversation, he called out to Isabel from a distance, "Miss Smith, we’re over here!"
After saying this, CEO Wood immediately raised his hand with a smile to wave at Isabel. His slightly chubby face showed an extraordinarily joyful expression.
Evelyn stopped talking and, following CEO Wood’s gaze, looked over at Isabel, her expression darkening a bit.
Isabel led her horse with elegance and approached CEO Wood. After mounting her horse, she turned her head and politely smiled at him, "CEO Wood, I’m sorry for keeping you waiting."
"No problem, no problem." CEO Wood scrutinized Isabel’s face, pointed at the vast horse field ahead, and said, "Miss Smith, shall we ride around for a bit?"
Before Isabel could respond, Evelyn spoke up, "CEO Wood, if you don’t mind, I’d like to join you for a few laps as well."
CEO Wood didn’t even glance at Evelyn, his eyes fixed on Isabel.
Isabel first silently looked at Evelyn, then curved the corner of her lips and said, "Alright, CEO Wood."
Only then did CEO Wood turn his head and say to Evelyn, "Miss Evelyn, please wait a moment. I’m going to race with Miss Smith first."
Evelyn still maintained a pleasant smile, but her eyes grew cold. She softly nodded, her voice sweet, "Hmm, then CEO Wood, I’ll be waiting for you."
CEO Wood gave Evelyn a hurried nod and then eagerly pulled the reins, saying, "Miss Smith, let’s get started."
Isabel didn’t hesitate. As soon as CEO Wood finished speaking, she clamped her legs around the horse’s belly, whipped the horse, and sprinted ahead.
CEO Wood didn’t rush, closely following Isabel. His horsemanship was indeed excellent. All the horses here were top-notch, so in terms of stamina, they were well matched. Since it was a competition, Isabel had no intention of giving way to CEO Wood. Even though she took the lead, he caught up quickly.
For the next two laps, Isabel and CEO Wood’s horses were neck and neck. As they rode faster and faster, Isabel showed no trace of nervousness. She held the reins leisurely, occasionally responding to CEO Wood’s questions by turning back towards him.
Evelyn rode her horse slowly around the field, her face growing uneasy each time Isabel and CEO Wood galloped past, chatting and laughing together.
When Isabel wasn’t around, Evelyn had always accompanied her grandma to meet with clients, and those important clients were always very attentive to her. But now that Isabel was here, CEO Wood, who used to greet her with a flower-like smile, had grown noticeably cold towards her.
In a similarly bad mood was Percy Stanton, who was walking his horse slowly alongside Raymond Thompson’s pony on the green lawn, his attention entirely focused on Isabel as she dashed along the path.
"Dad, Dad --" After calling Percy twice without getting any reaction, Raymond couldn’t help but frown and turn back to look at his preoccupied father.
