Chapter 269: Chapter 281: The Repeated Confessions (18)
Does she care if he goes to see her now?
Percy Stanton suddenly felt a wave of weakness washing over him. He heavily leaned back onto the sofa, raised his hand, and irritably ruffled his hair. He threw his head back and closed his eyes.
Perhaps, it might create difficulties for her if he went to see her now.
...
When Isabel Smith woke up the next day, it was already ten in the morning. It was Secretary Emille’s phone call that had disturbed her sleep.
She got to bed late the night before and was not feeling well. Given that it was Saturday and she had not set an alarm, Isabel had overslept.
Isabel was still not fully awake, so she answered the call without checking who it was. Her voice was a bit nasal as she said, "Hello, this is Isabel Smith."
"CEO Smith, Chairman Smith asked you to meet CEO Wood at the horse field in the suburb at 3 p.m."
CEO Wood had been a major client of Smith Corporation for a long time.
Since the horse field was located in the suburb of Bellshire City, and it took at least two hours to reach there, Isabel Smith got out of bed immediately after ending the phone call to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.
Isabel put on a rose-red sportswear. As the weather was a bit chilly, she also wore a set of thermal underwear beneath her sportswear. She tied up her long hair and, out of courtesy for meeting a client, she also applied light makeup.
By the time Isabel arrived, Mrs. Smith was already waiting in the lounge of the horse field. As soon as Isabel got off the car, a waiter greeted her and led her into the VIP Lounge after she provided the name of Mrs. Smith.
Only after entering the lounge did Isabel find out that Mrs. Smith had also brought Evelyn Osbert and Elijah Smith. Both of them had met Isabel a few times at the Smith Family’s home after their falling-out but Elijah always treated Isabel with indifference. Even now, he still treated Isabel as if she was not there.
Around twenty minutes later, CEO Wood arrived at the lounge of the horse field along with his assistant.
CEO Wood’s assistant was a very beautiful young woman. During the journey, she had praised CEO Wood for his tasteful choice of sportswear, making him especially cheerful. Therefore, when he greeted Mrs. Smith, there was a broad smile on his face. He shook hands with Mrs. Smith and said, "Chairman Smith, it’s been a long time. I was just saying yesterday that I feel like horse riding, and surprisingly Chairman Smith called today inviting me over."
Mrs. Smith replied, "Mister Wood, you are being too modest. I’m an old lady and am not fit for horse riding anymore. It’s my grandsons and granddaughters who wanted to go horse riding in the suburb. Since I knew you enjoy horse riding, I thought of giving you a call. I just wanted to breathe in some fresh air in the suburb. I am honored that you accepted my invitation."
"Oh, not at all," CEO Wood laughed as he scanned Evelyn Osbert and Elijah Smith, and finally turned to Isabel standing next to Mrs. Smith. After sizing her up for a moment, he asked with a smile, "Chairman Smith, I don’t think we have met before?"
"My eldest granddaughter, Isabel Smith," Mrs. Smith introduced.
Isabel Smith immediately extended her hand towards CEO Wood and said, "Mister Wood, it’s a pleasure to meet you."
"Please, please," CEO Wood responded with a smile while shaking hands with Isabel Smith. His gaze lingered on Isabel’s face for a while longer as he complimented, "Chairman Smith is really blessed to have such a well-behaved and beautiful granddaughter."
Isabel simply responded with a smile.
At CEO Wood’s compliment, Mrs. Smith chuckled.
Feeling the compliment had nothing to do with him, Elijah Smith was just there for horse riding. So, there was no noticeable change in his facial expression.
However, the fact that CEO Wood constantly had his eyes on Isabel made Evelyn Osbert feel jealous.
