Chapter 264: Chapter 276: The Repeated Confessions (13)

Her hand hadn’t touched the switch, when suddenly in front of her, a hissing sound echoed.

Instinctually, Isabel lifted her head and saw, about three meters in front of her, a match being lit—a small, luminous ring that dimmed within a few seconds.

The light of the match was weak, and Isabel hadn’t had a chance to clearly see who was standing in front of her.

The house plunged back into total darkness.

Isabel fumbled blindly along the wall, trying to speak. Despite her effort at maintaining a steady tone, her voice still vibrated slightly, "Who... who are you?"

She posed the question hesitantly, but deep in her heart, she had already had a vague idea of who the person standing in front of her might be!

The person standing in front of her remained silent.

The quietness inside the house was chilling. Isabel could clearly hear a soft noise emanating from the figure, followed by the striking and lighting of another match, its dim glow illuminating the silent room once again.

This time, Isabel clearly saw the glow glistening off a white shirt, but by the time she lifted her gaze the match light had extinguished again.

The man in front of her seemed to take pleasure in this game he was playing—he repeatedly lit a match, watched it burn, and then extinguished it, one after another.

By the time the box was empty of matches, Isabel still hadn’t found the light switch near the entrance hall.

The room once again fell into darkness. Isabel, who was staring intently at the faintly discernible silhouette in front of her, couldn’t help but swallow hard.

She realized that the man in front of her, who refused to utter a single word and didn’t even show an expression, was exerting such overbearing presence merely by standing there striking matches that she found her heart feeling uncomfortably choked, as if it would explode anytime now.

Even the thought of turning back and dashing out of the house had crossed Isabel’s mind.

But it seemed like the man had no intention of giving her that chance.

A dim blue light suddenly emanated out of nowhere.

Isabel could see that it was the light from his mobile phone.

He slowly brought the phone upfront and directly opened the dial pad. He didn’t search for Isabel’s phone number, but his fingertips pressed memorized numbers into the pad, one by one.

He paused with every number he entered, paused eleven times for the eleven digits, then dialed.

Then, Isabel’s mobile phone started ringing melodically.

Isabel, startled, had her hand tremble and her mobile phone slipped onto the ground.

She was looking down; her phone buzzed around on the floor endlessly because of the vibration, the lit screen clearly displaying ’Percy Stanton’.

Isabel didn’t reach for her phone. She just stood frozen right there.

Percy Stanton held his phone to his ear, and the faint blue light outlined his perfectly chiseled profile.

Isabel’s phone rang five times. All of a sudden, Percy Stanton broke stride, phone still by his ear, and started to move slowly toward her. On the ground, Isabel’s phone continued to ring and vibrate, making a buzzing sound when it came into contact with the floor.

Percy Stanton’s steps were steady, his footfall making a barely discernible noise.

One step after another.

He finally stopped half-step away from Isabel, then the man bent down, picked up the phone from the ground, answered it, and then extended a hand to put the phone by Isabel’s ear. Only then did he slowly start to speak into the phone that he lifted, saying, "Isabel, where are you right now?"

Isabel heard the phrase "Isabel, where are you right now?" twice in quick succession—once floating in from the pitch-dark air and once from the earpiece of her phone.
