Chapter 263: Chapter 275: The Repeated Confessions (12)
He felt that his patience had been pushed to its absolute limit these past few days!
The next second, Percy took his mobile phone out of his pocket, found her phone number and dialed directly.
Through the glass door, Percy watched intently as Isabel, shivering in the small garden outside from the cold, fumbled for her phone from her bag, then hesitated for a quite a while staring at the screen before answering.
About ten seconds later, Isabel’s voice came through, "Hello?"
"Where are you now?" Percy stared intently at Isabel, not too far away, and asked in a calm tone.
Isabel took a deep breath, tried to steady her voice which was trembling from the cold, and lied casually, "I’m at Grandma’s house."
"Uh-huh." Percy’s voice sounded as usual, clear and nonchalant, "When will you come back?"
Isabel hesitated for a moment, "I may have to wait a while, I really have something to do tonight, why don’t you go to sleep first?"
The other end of the phone fell silent.
Did not know if it was because of the lie, Isabel felt a bit nervous facing this silence.
After a very long time, so long that Isabel thought the call had been disconnected, Percy’s voice came through again, still very calm, pure as distilled water without any trace of emotion, "Alright, I’m going to sleep."
Isabel breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Goodnight."
"Uh-huh, come home early, go to bed early." Percy replied quickly this time and then quickly hung up.
Isabel was not sure if it was her imagination, but Percy’s tone before hanging up sounded no different from usual. Yet, under the quiet night, there was an indescribable sense of tenderness. However, Isabel felt a hint of danger permeating from his tone. ?Isabel stood under the streetlight holding her phone for quite a while, and when she looked up, she saw the light went off in Percy’s apartment on the eighteenth floor.
Isabel’s heart finally settled down. She breathed a long sigh of relief; Percy had finally gone to sleep.
Then she hooked her lips, laughed at herself a bit. How did she sense danger from Percy’s tone just now? She really had been on edge lately!
With these thoughts in mind, Isabel picked up her bag and entered the apartment.
She took the elevator back to the eighteenth floor.
Isabel walked slowly to her apartment door. As she was about to take out the keys to open the door, her phone rang again.
Even though the sound insulation of the apartment was excellent, Isabel still feared of disturbing Percy. She quickly took out her phone without checking the caller id and directly answered the call.
"Hello, Isabel."
"Are you back?" Percy’s distinctive charming voice followed.
Isabel was so startled that she almost dropped her phone, and without any thought, she immediately answered, "Not yet."
This time, Percy didn’t say a word and just hung up.
Isabel stood at her apartment door, startled by the sudden call, her heart inexplicably shaky. She hesitated for a moment at the door, then unlocked it and quickly dashed into the apartment as if she was afraid that Percy’s apartment door would suddenly open, quickly closing her own door.
The entrance area was the darkest part of the apartment. Usually, Isabel would turn on the light at the entrance using the light from the corridor before closing the door.
This time, she hurriedly closed the door. She stood at the pitch-dark doorway, raised her hand, and reached for the switch on the wall.
