Chapter 260: Chapter 272: The Repeated Confessions (9)
His gaze flickered for a moment before he slowly lowered his head, leaning towards her ear, and whispered, "Isabel, it seems like we haven’t done it in a long time."
With just one sentence, Isabel immediately understood what Percy wanted from her tonight.
Ever since his last attempt at a confession to her, she had tried her best to avoid being alone with him.
However, she had forgotten that they still had an agreement...
A sudden inexplicable tension shot up from the bottom of her feet. Isabel pursed her lips and subconsciously stepped back.
Percy looked at her evasion, his brow furrowed slightly, a fleeting hint of hurt flashed through his eyes.
It quickly disappeared in just a second, as if it had been an illusion.
Percy soon returned to his usual restraint and indifference. He cast a deep glance at Isabel, brushed past her, and walked out of the restroom.
...
Today after work, Isabel happened to run into Mrs. Smith and Amelia in the elevator.
Isabel often reported to Mrs. Smith about her work in the company, but she rarely met Amelia. This was her first time encountering Amelia in the company.
Amelia, as always, was very good at socializing. Upon seeing Isabel, she immediately played the role of a good aunt, "Isabel, off work?"
"Mhm," Isabel smiled faintly, nodded, and politely greeted, "Grandma, Auntie."
"It’s been many days since Isabel came over for dinner that last time," Amelia said in a seemingly warm and friendly manner. She then looked at Mrs. Smith and continued, "Your grandmother has been complaining every day that you’re not coming home!"
Before Isabel could reply, Mrs. Smith intervened, "If you’re free tonight, come home for dinner."
Isabel didn’t particularly want to go, but given the disagreement with Elijah earlier in the afternoon, she hesitated a moment before nodding without making an excuse, and responded, "Alright."
Since that day of her eighteen-year-old adulthood ceremony, after the car accident left both her parents dead, Isabel never drove a car again, always relying on taxis for transportation. Today, she carpooled with Mrs. Smith to the Smith Family for dinner.
When they arrived at the Smith Family, dinner was already prepared. Sebastian and Charlotte Green had a banquet to attend that night and didn’t come. Elijah Smith hadn’t returned home yet, so only Mrs. Smith, Amelia, and Isabel were eating dinner together.
Amelia was an adept socialite, her words always seemingly dripping with honey. Although Isabel didn’t like Amelia, she knew this wasn’t the right time to confront her. Thus, the atmosphere during dinner seemed quite harmonious.
After dinner, it was already eight o’clock, and Elijah Smith had not yet returned. Isabel sat in the living room, watching the financial news on TV with Mrs. Smith.
It wasn’t until almost 10:00 pm that a blinding high beam light flashed outside the villa’s window, followed by a servant announcing, "Young Master is back."
Then, the servant went to the entrance hall to fetch Elijah’s slippers.
As the servant prepared everything, Elijah entered the house. He casually threw his bag onto the entrance area storage shelf, changed into his slippers, and strode into the living room.
"Elijah, have you had dinner?" asked Mrs. Smith, putting down her teacup as she looked at the approaching Elijah.
Isabel sat on the sofa without much change in her expression, her gaze merely falling softly on Elijah.
Upon hearing Mrs. Smith’s words, Elijah paused for a moment, then glanced at Isabel, who was sitting beside Mrs. Smith. He pressed his lips together, and his gaze quickly fell on Mrs. Smith’s face. He replied, "I have."
And then he went straight upstairs.
