Chapter 258: Chapter 270: The Repeated Confessions (7)
"That money is from Father, I am more than happy to spend it on Charlotte Green. As long as Charlotte wants my money, I will willingly give it all to her, including my shares, I will transfer to her immediately! What, do you have a say in this? Don’t you dare accuse her of having ulterior motives. In my eyes, the one with the worst intentions in the world is you—"
"Slap—"
Elijah Smith had barely finished speaking when Isabel Smith raised her hand and delivered a slap across his face.
The slap, delivered with great force, distorted Elijah’s face completely.
His words stopped abruptly.
He remained motionless for a whole minute before lifting his hand to gently touch his slapped cheek. Slowly, he turned his head and looked at Isabel.
Isabel was shaking with anger and her eyes were somewhat dull. She glared at Elijah, panting heavily, unable to say a word.
Elijah’s hand clenched into a fist. He stared at Isabel for a while, then chuckled, his words cold and blunt: "Isabel Smith, you’ve always been stubborn, arrogant, and thoughtless. You’ve acted as if the whole world should be beneath you. To you, everyone else seems insignificant."
"Isabel Smith, you think your arrogance makes you proud? In my eyes, this part of you is utterly disgusting."
Isabel was shaking even more violently. There was an indescribable anger spreading rapidly in her heart, prompting her to raise her hand to Elijah again.
This time, Elijah didn’t attempt to dodge. He just stared at her hand, sneering, and even leaned his face closer: "After all these years, you’re still the same. When words fail you, you resort to violence. Want to hit me? Go ahead."
Isabel pursed her lips, lifted her hand sharply, but just as she was about to strike Elijah’s face, she clenched her hand into a fist again.
"Aha, why did you stop? Isabel Smith, even you have times when you can’t act out?" Elijah Smith said with self-mockery, curling up his lips, and continued speaking: "Isabel Smith, in your eyes, even Charlotte, our cousin with whom you share the same bloodline, is a villain. Are there any good people left in your world? Have you ever treated anyone sincerely?"
"Isabel Smith, you’re heartless. I’m not. Don’t turn me into someone as cold, ruthless, and terrifying as you!"
Elijah Smith’s voice was very low and calm, not as explosive and fierce as usual. When he finally spoke again, he lowered his voice and emphasized his words: "Isabel Smith, do you know, I, tru,ly, de,test, you!"
I, tru,ly, de,test, you!
These words, like thunder, exploded one by one next to Isabel’s ear.
After Elijah finished speaking, he turned away, breathing heavily, trying to deal with the frustration in his heart.
Isabel stood still in front of him. There wasn’t any change in her demeanor. Her clear and bright eyes just kept staring at his face. Her straight back was like a proud princess, elegant and noble. Her gaze was as calm and composed as always, as if all the contempt he expressed, had nothing to do with her.
Isabel stood in front of Elijah for a while, then blinked gently, turned around without making a sound, walked to her desk, sat down peacefully, then lifted her hand, picked up the phone on the table, dialed a few numbers, and said in a clear and pleasant voice: "Secretary Emille, notify all department employees of our immediately pending Friday routine meeting."
After she finished speaking, Isabel hung up the phone, and swiftly picked up several documents from the pile on her desk.
Elijah Smith stood in the center of the office, watching Isabel, who looked just like her usual self. He gritted his teeth, then bent down to pick up his car keys, and walked out of the office without looking back.
