Chapter 249: Chapter 261: Unintentional Care and Concern (10)
It took Elijah Smith a long time to gather the courage to make this call to Isabel Smith, and when he heard her words, an urge to strangle her welled up in his heart. However, realizing that she had control of his money, he had to hold his temper and speak again: "Isabel, it’s my money. I can spend it however I want."
"Heh~" Isabel snorted coldly over the phone, then shifted her gaze and slowly revealed the plan she had devised to deal with Elijah: "Elijah, I’m not against giving you the money, but you have to promise me one thing."
Elijah didn’t respond at the other end of the call.
Isabel didn’t get angry, but simply continued: "Starting now, all you have to do is go to Starhaven University every day, on time, without being late, leaving early, or skipping classes. I don’t need much – just seven days. If you manage to do that, I’ll give you your money back. And if you pass your final exams, I’ll give you the Smith Corporation shares that Father left for you."
Pausing, Isabel addressed the still-silent Elijah: "Elijah, this is my biggest concession to you. If you don’t agree, don’t even think about getting the money back!"
After a few seconds of silence, Elijah’s gritted-teeth response came through: "Fine!"
"Elijah, you must keep your word!" Isabel replied, satisfied, adding: "Remember, don’t even think about cheating your way through this. I’ll have someone follow you sporadically. If they find any trace of lateness, early departure, or truancy within these seven days, all the money is mine."
"And what about you? What if you sabotage me and cause me to fail?"
Isabel laughed softly as if she’d heard a funny joke, then said: "Elijah, if I do anything to make you late, leave early or skip classes, I’ll never have an orgasm in my life!"
Hearing Isabel’s familiar vulgar words flow effortlessly from her mouth, Elijah on the other side of the call choked violently on the water he was drinking, coughing heavily. When his coughing fit subsided, he snapped at Isabel, "I know! I’m hanging up now!"
Despite Elijah’s ferocious tone, Isabel spoke calmly, softly saying, "Mhm," and just as Elijah was about to end the call, she suddenly added in a gentle voice, "Elijah.."
His hand, poised to end the call, froze abruptly.
Isabel gazed at the reddish sunset over Bellshire City and blinked softly before saying, "Elijah, I am your older sister, Isabel."
"I am the only person in this world who would never hurt you. Even though you may hate me right now, you are my most beloved younger brother in this world."
As Isabel said this, her eyes softened, her voice lowered, revealing a faint trace of sadness: "Elijah, to me, your money and shares are far less important than you are."
Elijah didn’t expect Isabel to say these words just before he hung up. His gaze grew frantic, his heart pounding wildly in his chest as he hesitated for a few seconds. Then his eyes scanned left and right before he decisively hung up the call.
Isabel listened to the dial tone, a tinge of loss creeping into her heart.
Elijah still felt distant to her...
Isabel held the phone in her palm, let out a soft sigh, and headed back into her bedroom. As her hand touched the floor-to-ceiling window on the balcony, she suddenly recalled Percy Stanton, who she had left in the bedroom, and anxiety welled up in her heart again.
