Chapter 237: Chapter 249: The Poisonous Mango (18)
Perhaps due to menstrual pain, Isabel Smith felt her legs were like two icicles. She intended to pick up the hot tea from the table and take a sip to ease the pain, but when her fingers touched the teacup, a wave of pain came from her abdomen. Her hand trembled, and the teacup fell with a bang.
Percy Stanton happened to glance at Isabel and saw the falling teacup. Without thinking, he stretched his hand and swatted at the scorching tea falling toward Isabel’s legs, managing to deflect the teacup and the tea aside.
Although some of the tea landed on Isabel’s legs, it was only a small amount and caused no significant harm.
Edward Shaw quickly took a paper tissue from the table and handed it to Percy, whose fingers were red from the burning tea. Percy winced in pain, took the tissue, and took a deep breath before reluctantly raising his uninjured right hand to wipe his scalded left hand.
By this time, Isabel had recovered her senses. She quickly got a tissue and wiped Percy’s hand as well, saying "I’m sorry" as she wiped.
Percy didn’t respond but stopped wiping his hand and glanced down at Isabel, who continued wiping for him.
The two were relatively close at this point; he noticed sweat beads breaking out on Isabel’s temples. It was almost winter, and there was no heating in any of the rooms in Bellshire City, so the rooms couldn’t get hot. Why was she sweating?
Percy couldn’t help but pay more attention to Isabel. When he saw her movements stiffen while turning to throw the tissue away, he involuntarily furrowed his brows.
Isabel tossed the tissue into the trash can, and as she straightened up, felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, so intense that she unconsciously supported herself on the chair beneath her.
She gritted her teeth, trying to bear the pain and lift her head, but then she heard a screeching sound from the chair beside her.
Before Isabel could see what Percy was planning to do, her arm was grabbed.
Perhaps due to excessive blood loss, Isabel’s blood sugar was low, and when Percy yanked her up, her head spun, her feet faltered, and her body collapsed.
Percy’s quick reflexes stretched his hand to hold her waist, then felt her head, and in the next second, lifted her horizontally into a warm, sturdy embrace.
"What’s wrong, Miss Smith?" Lily Adams asked aloud.
Isabel, already in pain and barely able to speak, just half-closed her eyes, her lips trembling slightly, and gripped Percy’s shirt tightly.
Seeing Isabel in his arms, Percy noted her weak and pallid appearance, her slender body shivering, and her lips nearly white, which was very different from her usual image as a capable and well-dressed white-collar worker.
A wave of heartache surged in Percy’s heart. He frowned at the pitiful Isabel in his arms, then turned to Edward Shaw and Lily Adams, apologizing, "I’m sorry, but I have to leave."
Without waiting for Edward and Lily’s reaction, Percy hurriedly left with Isabel in his arms.
The car was parked quite far away. Holding Isabel, Percy crossed the street of Ten Mile Prosperity, and swiftly hurried to his car. He opened the car door and gently placed her inside.
Percy quickly got into the car himself, started the engine, and searched for a nearby hospital on his mobile phone.
Leaning weakly against the car seat, Isabel glanced at Percy as he located a hospital and was about to drive there when she said, "There’s no need to go to a hospital."
