Chapter 230: Chapter 242: The Poisonous Mango (11)

"Charlotte, are you okay?"

"Charlotte, did you hurt yourself from falling?"

"Do you need to see a doctor?"

Surrounded by the concerned voices of her friends, Evelyn Osbert’s mood gradually calmed a bit. She cautiously opened her eyes to look at the man she had just been chatting with, and found that his expression hadn’t changed due to the incident just now. Only then did she feel somewhat relieved. She blinked twice and smiled at the friends around her, whispering, "I’m fine, don’t worry."

"Ha~"

As soon as Evelyn finished speaking, a loud scoff immediately followed.

The sound, neither too loud nor too light, was clear to everyone around.

This laugh came from Percy Stanton, more derisive than the sneering Evelyn had directed at Isabel Smith earlier.

It was filled with unmistakable contempt and disdain, yet compared to Evelyn’s earlier sneer, Percy’s laughter carried an extra layer of disdain and disregard.

The smile on Evelyn’s face froze instantly.

She didn’t know whether to cry or laugh, she could only awkwardly turn her head and look at Percy.

Percy merely gave Evelyn a cool look, lifted his chin indifferently, and spoke without any trace of apology, "Miss Evelyn, I’m really sorry, I asked if I could sit here, but you and this gentleman next to you were completely engrossed in your conversation and didn’t respond at all. Besides, you were sitting on the chair, so I didn’t think much of it. Who would’ve known that Miss Evelyn’s elegant posture required the assistance of this chair."

Isabel Smith never knew that the man next to her could be so petty with a woman. His tactics were ruthless and without mercy.

For Evelyn, someone who cares so much about her image, falling to the ground in front of so many people was brutal, but Percy even added insult to injury, seemingly apologizing but in reality, ridiculing Evelyn’s seductive attempts to charm men.

Isabel stood by, watching silently as Evelyn’s face turned from white to green, then to red. She was overjoyed but thought it would end there. However, Percy, as if careless, glanced at his chair then at the man Evelyn was talking to, deliberately pushed the chair back in front of Evelyn, and said, "Since Miss Evelyn needs this chair, I shall find a new seat."

Isabel nearly laughed out due to Percy’s final words. Percy turned around, glared at Isabel, and Isabel quickly stifled her laughter. She smiled elegantly at Evelyn, her tone friendly and generous, "Charlotte, we’ll go find other seats then."

After saying that, Isabel and Percy left hand in hand.

Leaving Evelyn standing in the same spot, watching Isabel and Percy’s retreating figures. Her chest heaved with suppressed anger. She wanted to scream, but she always branded herself as a gentle person in front of everyone.

At this moment, she absolutely couldn’t maintain that image but still insisted on doing so.

After a while, Evelyn managed to squeeze out an apology with great effort and headed to the restroom.

Evelyn pushed open a partition door in the restroom with force, locked the door from the inside, and then began to gasp for air.

The more she thought about it, the more suffocated she felt, but she had nowhere to vent. At last, she couldn’t endure anymore, and she squatted on the toilet, bursting into tears.
