Chapter 229: Chapter 241: The Poisonous Mango (10)
In such a pose, she looked tempting with a graceful figure, appearing extremely enticing.
Mr. Stanton clearly heard Evelyn’s previous sigh directed at Isabel. His gaze instantly turned colder. Upon seeing that Evelyn had only just sat down and had already struck up an animated conversation with someone, he picked up a plate and headed straight for the table where she was seated without a second thought.
Isabel was somewhat puzzled by Percy’s intentions. Although she particularly detested Evelyn, she followed him nonetheless.
Where Evelyn was seated, and the man beside her were two vacant seats, but given the hasty stride at which Percy arrived, he had no option but to sit next to Evelyn.
As Percy observed Evelyn leaning casually on her chair, fully engaged in a lively conversation with the man next to her, he spoke in a somewhat indifferent tone, "Excuse me, may I sit here?"
Evelyn was too preoccupied with the satisfaction of having a man fall under her charm to heed Percy’s words. Without lifting her head, she carried on whispering sweetly to the man beside her.
Standing before the chair, Percy watched Evelyn, who had her back to him and was twisting her waist enticingly, entirely ignoring him. His demeanor remained as calm as ever. He casually lifted his hand and naturally pulled back the empty chair next to Evelyn.
As a result, Evelyn, who was originally leaning her weight slightly on the chair beside her, was immediately thrown off balance. Bereft of support, she involuntarily let out a low cry before her hand slipped from the table. Unaware of what was happening and completely unprepared, she lost her footing. Everything happened so quickly that she didn’t even have time to reach out to maintain her balance. Without any warning, she fell clumsily to the ground.
Evelyn was halfway off her seat, with the other half brushing against the edge of the chair. As she fell, she tumbled off the chair onto the floor, making intimate contact with it and knocking the chair loudly to the ground. The resonating thud attracted the attention of everyone in the mansion, all of whom turned to look at Evelyn.
Holding a chair with one hand and a cake with the other, Percy stood elegantly apart, leisurely watching Evelyn fall right in front of him and Isabel. His expression remained composed and dignified, showing no inclination to help Evelyn up.
Crouching on the ground, it took Evelyn a moment to realize what had transpired. Her face turned beet red, and a surge of anger welled up within her. However, surrounded by so many people, she had no outlet for her anger and had to suppress it. She looked pitifully at Percy, blinking her innocent eyes, and asked in a soft voice, "Mr. Stanton, if you needed the chair, why didn’t you let me know in advance?"
Perhaps, other men, seeing Evelyn’s tearful and innocent look of misery, would feel sympathy.
But all of Percy’s tender feelings were reserved for Isabel alone.
So Stella’s attempt at playing the fragile damsel did nothing to move him. He still stood there imperiously, openly gawking at Stella who had fallen on the ground without any reaction.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long for those around to regain their senses and help Evelyn up. But she, who had grown up as a pampered child, had never experienced such disgrace in public.
Especially when, on top of making such a complete fool of herself by falling, her plaintive appeal to Percy was met with complete indifference!
Evelyn felt more humiliated than at any other point in her life!
