Chapter 225: Chapter 237: The Poisonous Mango (6)
An attendant happened to pass by them. Isabel, holding an empty wine glass, signaled to him. The waiter quickly approached them and respectfully asked: "Miss and Sir, what can I assist you with?"
Isabel extended her hand, took the wine glass from Percy’s hand, and put it on the tray. She was about to replace them with two glasses of red wine when Percy suddenly raised his hand, stopping Isabel’s hand.
Even though it was a cool autumn night, his hand remained warm. Isabel’s heart trembled lightly at his touch. Slowly, she turned to look into Percy’s enchanting eyes.
Percy’s long eyelashes blinked lightly, before he said, "Don’t drink too much. It’s not good for your health."
In a warm and indifferent tone, Percy picked up a cup of hot milk from the side and handed it to Isabel. Meanwhile, he picked up a glass of red wine and held it in his palm.
The simple act of offering her a cup of milk and saying these possibly carefree words brought an inexplicable joy to Isabel’s heart.
Holding the cup of hot milk, Isabel softly said: "Thank you."
Percy didn’t respond, he simply lifted his wine glass and took a slow sip.
Even though they were on the outskirts of the banquet crowd, some people still came forward to greet them. Most of them were interested in Percy, but there were one or two who approached Isabel.
"Miss Smith, how can you replace red wine with milk?" A young and attractive couple laughed as they saw Isabel raising her cup of milk: "Miss Smith, no, no, you must have red wine. Waiter—"
The waiter quickly approached with a tray. The man from the couple took a glass of red wine and passed it to Isabel.
Isabel knew this kind of social interaction could not be avoided. Thus, she graciously accepted the wine, clinked glasses with them and was about to drink when Percy, standing beside her, reached out and took the red wine from her hand. He downed it without hesitation, then picked another glass of red wine from a nearby waiter’s tray. Even though his voice sounded indifferent and elegant, it was also quite pleasant, "Miss Smith has had a bit too much to drink, so I drank this one for her. Carry on."
Seeing Percy quickly down a large glass of wine, the couple felt embarrassed to press any further. They each took a sip of their wine and left.
Isabel, holding her half-glass of red wine, turned to Percy who was still calm and composed despite drinking a significant amount of wine, and said: "Actually, it won’t make much difference if I take a little more. It’s okay."
"People always think that one more drink won’t matter, and then they end up drunk. The hangover is terrible." Percy looked at Isabel, his eyes clear and bright under the two-colored lights. After a while, he blinked slowly and after a few seconds, he added: "Moreover, you had quite a bit to drink before the banquet started."
He arrived at Elijah Smith’s birthday banquet a little earlier than her. When she and Elijah accompanied Mrs. Smith into the event, the guests immediately surrounded them. Even though he was standing a bit far away, his attention was constantly on her.
She graciously entertained the guests who came to greet her, holding a glass of red wine and drinking one glass after another.
He didn’t count exactly how many glasses she had.
However, it is always bad for your health to drink too much alcohol.
Isabel sat on a tree branch, her feet dangling. She looked like a young, playful girl. But when she heard what Percy said, her feet suddenly froze, and she stiffened on the branch.
Did his words mean... before she went on stage for the opening dance, he had been keeping an eye on her the entire time? Even the fact that she had drunk quite a bit was noticed by him?
