Chapter 220: Chapter 232: The Poisonous Mango (1)
But she couldn’t get angry, she could only maintain her stiff smile, standing on the stage, unable to move forward or backward.
The whispers from under the stage grew louder.
Isabel Smith’s expression also grew somewhat pale.
Percy Stanton stood on the outermost layer of the crowd. He held a glass of wine, leaning against a tree full of pink petals. He looked elegant and noble. Listening to the muted discussion of the crowd in front of him, an eyebrow slightly furrowed, he couldn’t help but raise his head, looking at Isabel Smith standing in the center of the dance floor from a distance.
The woman in a sapphire blue long dress, her black hair lightly tied up, exposing her beautiful neck. Her posture was still straight as always, no different from before, like a noble white swan. It seemed as if the embarrassment caused by Elijah Smith’s absence did not affect her.
No matter how far apart they were, no matter how many people were around them, he could clearly read her underlying distress from her seemingly indifferent attitude.
Others observed her with their eyes, while he was the only one who understood her with his heart.
Percy Stanton wondered, how did the once arrogant and invincible Miss of the Smith Family end up so miserable six years later?
Why was it every time, she was always placed in a situation where people could discuss, mock, and take pleasure in her misery?
This woman, the priceless treasure that he had cherished in the softest part of his heart for six years, why did she become the subject of public entertainment over and over again?
Percy Stanton initially didn’t want to attend Elijah Smith’s birthday banquet tonight, but now, he felt it was too necessary for him to be here!
Percy Stanton gulped down his wine as an attendant walked by. He lifted his head and placed the empty glass onto the attendant’s tray. Slowly standing up, he straightened his clothes and unbuttoned the cuffs on his wrist.
The attendant looked at Percy Stanton’s empty glass on the tray, and respectfully asked, "Sir, can I get you anything else?"
Percy Stanton didn’t respond, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a vase on the attendant’s tray, holding a perfectly bloomed white rose. He lifted his head, took the rose from the vase, said a cold "Thank you" to the attendant.
Without waiting for the attendant’s response, he delicately held the white rose and walked elegantly towards the stage.
...
The whispers grew louder, the venue even became somewhat chaotic.
Isabel Smith’s forced smile grew stiffer.
Mrs. Smith in the audience, also looked bad-tempered, her face turning increasingly ugly. As she was about to go onto the stage to resolve the situation, a man in a black suit suddenly stepped onto the stairs directly opposite the stage where Isabel Smith was standing.
The atmosphere in the entire yard of the villa suddenly quieted down, and everyone’s eyes focused on the man whose demeanor was dignified, yet noble.
The man was tall, his outfit was formal but not a tuxedo. However, his physique was so good that he made the fitted clothes look outstanding.
He casually walked onto the stage, effortlessly drawing attention away from everybody else.
His features were very refined, as if they were an artistic masterpiece meticulously crafted by a master. His eyebrows and eyes were distinct, his temperament brilliant, his eyes deep and dark. Even without much emotion, he gave off an air of unapproachability.
The venue instantly went silent, totally quiet.
Isabel Smith stared into Percy Stanton’s eyes, somewhat unable to perceive his motives for coming onto the stage.
Percy Stanton looked into her eyes, he moved with a firm stride, unhesitating, walking right in front of her.
