Chapter 218: Chapter 230: Exchange of Venue (7)
Time flies, and before they knew it, the day of Elijah Smith’s twentieth birthday had arrived.
Each senior executive of the company received an invitation letter.
The birthday banquet was prepared single-handedly by Carla Osbert. Despite her dislike for Isabel Smith and Elijah Smith, she still went out of her way to make the banquet extraordinarily lavish and grand, all for the sake of showing off to Mrs. Smith.
The chosen location this time was in an open-air lawn within a private villa.
Although Elijah hadn’t yet entered the business circle, and the Smith Corporation had been struggling in recent years, it still held some prestige due to being a long-standing company. So, before the night had fully fallen, countless luxury cars were already parked outside the villa.
Isabel and Elijah’s formal dresses were specially designed by the Smith Corporation’s design department. Elijah wore a blue suit with a white shirt underneath and a beautiful red tie on top. He looked youthful and bright without losing any formality. Isabel wore a blue strapless long dress with a red waistband and a pair of red diamond-studded high heels, looking stunningly eye-catching.
Isabel and Elijah stood one on each side of Mrs. Smith as they appeared at the villa. The moment the three of them appeared, they were greeted with numerous blessings.
Today was Elijah’s birthday, so naturally, many birthday wishes were given to him. Still, more people were concerned about Mrs. Smith’s health and praised the perfect pair of granddaughter and grandson standing beside her.
Isabel glanced at the scene and had to admit that Carla had done a great job with the decorations. The suspended big screen sometimes displayed pictures of Elijah from his childhood to the present, along with some well-wishing messages from attendees. The trees on the villa’s lawn were filled with colored lights, sparkling like fireworks.
Seeing so many people wishing Elijah a happy birthday, even Isabel, as the older sister, felt extremely happy. Mrs. Smith, perhaps because of the rarity of such a happy event, had an especially bright and pleasant smile on her face.
The birthday banquet was scheduled to officially begin at 8:30 pm. When Isabel and Elijah arrived, it was just 8 o’clock. Many attendees were employees of Smith Corporation and some collaborators from work. Therefore, Isabel accompanied Mrs. Smith in greeting them, while Elijah went to greet his classmates attending his birthday banquet.
Percy Stanton had already arrived, dressed in a classic black suit and standing tall under a relatively low-key tree, holding a glass of wine and chatting with a young man.
When Isabel, accompanying Mrs. Smith in greeting people, walked past Percy Stanton, she raised her wine glass and gave him a faint smile as a greeting.
At 8:20 pm, more people streamed into the villa’s banquet area, making the atmosphere livelier.
At 8:25 pm, the background music in the villa’s yard grew louder, drowning out the chatter. While chatting with a young lady from a noble family, Isabel saw Elijah drinking and slinging his arms around the shoulders of one of his male classmates.
At 8:27 pm, with only three minutes left before the start of the banquet, Isabel, who hadn’t attended such an event in a long time, began to feel somewhat anxious about the opening dance. So, she went to the restroom to touch up her makeup.
Meanwhile, Elijah received a phone call from Evelyn Osbert.
Since the music was quite loud at the time, Elijah couldn’t hear the voice on the phone clearly, so he deliberately walked out of the villa to find a relatively quiet place to answer his mobile phone: "Older sister, what is it?"
"Elijah, I had a business engagement today, and I arrived a bit late. Now, I’m in the vicinity but not sure which villa it is. Can you come to the doorstep to meet me, please?"
