Bai Wan glanced at the ghostly horde already closing in behind them, then turned to Su Yuening and said, “When you fell just now, I noticed something interesting.”

“What?” Su Yuening looked puzzled.

Bai Wan explained while running, “When you tripped, the ghosts that had been chasing you didn’t attack. Instead, another ghost that was wandering nearby lunged at you.”

Su Yuening blinked. “So…?”

“It means the ones behind us have different hunting patterns,” Bai Wan said. “The ghost that had been chasing you gave up once it saw you fell, but the one that had just been drifting aimlessly nearby ended up attacking you instead.

Now she understood. “So you’re saying the ones behind us—they’re not the same? Some only go for moving prey, some only for people who stop?”

Bai Wan nodded as they ran. “Exactly. If I’m right, the ones behind us are split into two groups. One kills moving targets, the other kills stationary ones.”

If it was just one pattern, that’d be easy enough to handle. But two patterns together—that was a dead-end trap. Run, you die. Freeze, you die.

Su Yuening’s breath tightened. “Then what do we do?”

She was already used to letting Bai Wan take the lead at moments like this.

Bai Wan’s mind was working furiously. Run, you die. Stop, you die. But what they needed most right now was—time.

Suddenly, Bai Wan turned and shouted ahead, “Sun bro, stop running! These ghosts are too fast. We can’t outrun them anyway. I’ve got an idea—trust me!”

Hearing his shout, Sun Qian and Wang Jian slowed their steps.

“Liu Tong, what’s the plan?” Sun Qian asked.

“I think I’ve figured out their hunting pattern. I need you all to cooperate with me,” Bai Wan called back.

Sun Qian and Wang Jian exchanged looks, then gritted their teeth and stopped. It’s do or die anyway—may as well gamble on Liu Tong.

Seeing everyone stop, Bai Wan motioned for Su Yuening to stand still too — then turned and ran in the opposite direction.

The ghosts immediately split: the ones that hunted moving prey chased after Bai Wan; the ones that hunted stationary prey veered toward Su Yuening’s group.

When the ghosts reached Su Yuening and the others — Bai Wan suddenly shouted, “Run!”

Su Yuening, Sun Qian, and Wang Jian instantly bolted forward again. The ghosts that hunted static targets instantly lost their quarry.

Meanwhile, the ghosts chasing Bai Wan for running prey were about to catch him. When he stopped, the ghosts froze for half a heartbeat—then turned to hunt the next moving target. At the same time, the ones hunting stationary prey pivoted back toward Bai Wan.

So the moment Bai Wan stopped moving, he baited the “static-prey” ghosts onto himself, but shook off the “moving-prey” ones. Then the moment the others ran, they drew off the “moving-prey” ghosts away from Bai Wan again.

In this way, the ghost pack split, reversed, and looped back—like traffic in a roundabout, giving the group precious time.

Su Yuening’s eyes widened. She instantly got it.

He’s using their opposite hunting patterns to kite them in circles!

Several times in a row, Bai Wan and the others repeated the pattern—the ghosts zigzagging back and forth, never quite catching them.

“Unreal…” Sun Qian was dumbstruck, breathless as he ran. He figured this out just from Yuening tripping?

Who really is this kid…

But just as Bai Wan was about to call out the next switch, a cold pulse ran up his spine—and he felt a new surge of ghostly energy flood into him.

Over his head, a line of text shimmered to life:

[He Always Breaks Everything]

His unique title had been triggered, drawn out by the flood of paranormal energy around them. The title shone in flickering purple light—an epic-tier badge blazing in the fog.

Sun Qian and Wang Jian stumbled at the sight. “Is that… a title?!” They’d heard of powerful players earning unique titles, but never seen one themselves.

He Always Breaks Everything?

Wait a minute —

Wang Jian’s eyes went round. “Isn’t that…the one from the bounty list…‘Family’ dude?!”

Sun Qian’s scalp prickled. “Holy hell?! He’s the one everyone calls the ‘Family Guy’? The only new player with a negative score? The one who shot up to the top 50? That’s him?!”

At that moment, the ghostly fog roiled and the tombstones in the graveyard behind them began to tremble violently. Crying noises rose from the dirt—dozens more ghosts clawing out of the ground, all turning their hollow eyes toward Bai Wan’s glowing title.

Sun Qian’s face went white. “Oh lord, Boss, what now?! That title is insane—it’s attracting more of them!”

Bai Wan looked equally embarrassed, glaring up at the title flickering above his head with clenched teeth. That damn thing was like a warm, glowing lighthouse—constantly guiding any astray paranormal entities lost in their path straight to him.

Wonderful. Guess he’d become their life coach now, huh?

Behind them, the mournful cries grew louder, the ground splitting open as more and more shadows dragged themselves free.

Wang Jian was about to cry. “BOSSSS—your title’s gonna kill us!!”

Bai Wan threw him a strained grin. “Don’t panic, hold on for one more minute!”

They kept running their dizzying bait dance, but more and more ghosts clawed out of the graves, drawn like moths to the flickering purple sign. Some of them were different too—neither static-prey nor moving-prey hunters.

More hunting patterns. Not good.

Bai Wan glanced at the timer in his mind.

Almost there.

They were all about to collapse when, at last, he felt it:

Ding!

A massive golden-yellow mushroom suddenly appeared in his hand, out of thin air.

The mushroom was warm to the touch and shimmered with a soft glow, pushing back some of the surrounding darkness.

Sun Qian and the others stared at the mushroom in Bai Wan’s hand, bewildered.

Where did that come from now?

Before they could react, they watched in shock as Bai Wan fed the gleaming mushroom straight to the sunflower perched on his shoulder.

The moment the sunflower swallowed the oversized sunlight mushroom, its body began to swell rapidly, its face breaking into a dazzling grin.

FWOOOSH.

Petals bloomed like gold. A burst of blinding sunlight flared from the little flower’s core—so bright even the flickering purple of Bai Wan’s title dimmed in comparison.

Seeing this, Bai Wan finally let out a breath of relief, a grin spreading across his face. He gently patted the sunflower, then looked at the mass of paranormal entities ahead.

“You had your fun. Now…”

He stepped forward, eyes sharp and steady.

“It’s my turn.”
