Chapter 84: His carefully thought-out plan

Azrael shouted his name, but Knox ignored him. If they don’t leave the place, then Azrael might start buying anything he laid eyes on. Knox even wondered if it was the first time the rich kid entered a bazaar, so he was too excited and started impulse buying.

’I don’t know what’s gotten into him, but why is so intent on shopping weird things?!’ Knox groaned inwardly. Instead of spending his time with his son, he was forced to try wigs and coats! ’I get the season is changing, but it’s still hot! We’re already wearing sweatshirts and he still wanted to wear winter coats over them?! He’s not right in the head. Ugh, I should have known!’

Knox stopped in front of a convenience store. He panted for air as he brought his palms to his knees. He looked back and saw Azrael chasing him. He waved at him and pointed at the convenience store, then he entered and bought two bottles of water.

He checked the time and sighed after seeing it was already four in the afternoon. He sat on the nearest bench and waited for Azrael to come.

"Oh, you made it," Knox clapped his hand, making fun of Azrael’s sweaty face.

Azrael panted. Knox ran until they exited the bazaar. In fear of losing him, Azrael followed quickly even though he still wanted to check for some scarf. Knox handed him a cold bottle of water, but he jumped him instead and slung his arm on his neck. Then, he scolded him, "How dare you run from me. I’m buying you necessities but you refuse, huh? Maybe I should just cover you in sheets and then walk you around."

"What necessities? Don’t exaggerate! I don’t think what I need right now is a winter coat and wig! Why are you even looking at the wigs?! Are you perhaps...wishing to have long hair?" Knox asked, genuinely curious. He patted Azrael’s cheek warmly and added, "Goodness, if you said so, I would even help you pick one! Let’s go back later if that will really make you happy."

Azrael, "Shut up. You’re irritating."

"Oh, wow, said the one who kept dragging me everywhere," Knox sarcastically replied. Azrael glared down at him as he drank water.

His eyes darted on the racks beside the counter. He finished the bottle and gave it back to Knox, who just frowned and complained for not throwing it directly in the bin instead. Knox rose and threw the bottles in the trash bin outside the store. He saw Azrael buying something again, so he leaned on the glass wall and waited.

"What did you buy this time?" He asked as soon as Azrael appeared.

Azrael didn’t answer. He gave the plastic bag to Knox, who obediently took it, then fished the pairs of tinted sunglasses. He wore one, and another to Knox who looked at him weirdly. Next, he brought out a pair of baseball caps, wore the black one to Knox, and put the white one over his own head.

Another rustle and Knox finally exclaimed, "There’s still more?!"

Azrael nodded, "Yeah. Be still and obedient. I’m doing you a favor. You’re going to thank me soon."

"Why?" Knox’s voice was muffled when his mouth was covered with a black face mask. He furrowed his brows but it goes unnoticed because of the cap. "What’s this for?"

Azrael, "I told you I’m going to show you something."

Knox, "Yeah. But why do I have to wear all of this? Are we hiding from someone? I look completely unrecognizable with this now!"

"That’s the point," Azrael held his hand after throwing off the plastic. They started to walk in the direction of the square where the more expensive shopping stores were located. Azrael bought a bucket of popcorn and two canned sodas.

Knox began to wonder again, "Are we going to watch a movie? There’s no theatre nearby."

"I know," Azrael casually replied. Once they reached the central plaza filled with white blocks made of concrete and some small plant boxes where some of the passersby and shoppers take rest, Azrael sat Knox on an unoccupied block and looked up, urging Knox to do the same as well.

Knox did. He followed Azrael’s gaze and his eyes landed on the big screen on one of the buildings. From their position, they could easily watch the commercials being played on it. Knox looked bewildered. He turned to Azrael, only to find him looking at his wristwatch.

Afterward, Azrael smiled at him and spoke, "I hope you’re going to take me seriously from now on."

Knox was baffled. Before he could even ask the man what he meant, the commercial ended, and the news flashed followed by the steady voice of the female reporter.

"BREAKING NEWS! THE CEO OF DV GROUP AZRAEL DEL VALLE AND THE FORMER INTERNATIONAL MODEL NOW PRESIDENT OF IDOL ENTERTAINMENT DIVA IRVIN HAD ANNOUNCED THEIR BREAK-UP!"

Knox’s head spun toward the screen his eyes wide with shock behind the cap. Beside him, he could hear the crunching of someone eating popcorn, but his attention was focused on the news. The screen showed a photo of Diva and Azrael during their engagement party, and then it changed to a video of Azrael interviewed by a field reporter in a room.

"As I and Diva’s engagement had been a public announcement before, I am also publicly announcing the cancellation of our engagement. Diva and I are childhood friends who grew up treating each other as siblings. We realized that we couldn’t both stomach marrying each other, so we’re breaking up. End of discussion," the alpha stood and adjusted his coat before walking away.

The camera followed his retreating figure, but the reporter didn’t dare to. It was as if he was ordered not to, and that his only job was to be there to only record Azrael. The screen changed back to the anchor but Knox already turned to look at the man munching on popcorn beside him, clearly enjoying his surprised reaction.

"So? I told you, you’ll need them, right?" Azrael smirked.

True to his words, the public going and coming into the place stopped and gaped at the screen above. The ’engagement of the century’ starring the famous billionaire business tycoon and the famed and distinguished female alpha model, was now broken. The hottest, latest, and trending in the news.

And that billionaire bachelor was the same guy gulping a soda beside Knox, relaxed and unbothered. However, Knox started to feel anxious. Azrael was eating, so his face mask was folded under his chin.

Knox noticed some people were turning their heads at them and then they’d whisper to their companion. When they began raising their phone, Knox quickly grabbed Azrael and pulled up his mask, whispering, "I think we should go! You’re being recognized!"

’That’s my goal. I want everyone to know I’m dating someone. That way, that old man won’t try to push through with the marriage,’ Azrael spoke to himself. He was also certain that after their photograph together reached Rage, the old man would surely approach Knox.

The public was already aware that the engagement between him and Diva was an arranged one, it won’t be that hard to make the people think he broke the engagement because he fell in love with someone.

The public will protect Knox from his father once revealed that it was him Azrael was dating. And Azrael will protect him from his father and malicious commoners.

He flashed a worried look at Knox, but inside him, he was glad that some people finally recognized him. Feigning a frenzied action, he quickly pulled Knox and they dashed back to the car.

An onlooker shouted, "It’s him! But who’s the one he’s with?!"

Knox pulled his cap even lower and Azrael draped his arm over his head, making sure he wasn’t photographed. It wasn’t yet the time, Azrael thought.

They quickly reached their car and left the place.
