Chapter 82: A date with you
"Is it planned?" Kayden asked as he pulled upward the knot of the stitch with the tweezers. He cut the tread and carefully pulled the broken stitch away from the skin. Once again, he was the one treating his cousin because his cranky behavior was scaring away the nurses.
"What do you mean?" Azrael asked, feigning ignorance. Knox excused himself saying he’d visit a friend, so Azrael agreed.
Now, inside Kayden’s office was only him and the doctor. Kayden crumpled his face at the fake innocence. He cut a strip of medical tape and put it over the wound before wrapping Azrael’s palm in gauze again. "You know damn well what I’m talking about. Your phone kept ringing but you never answered. You didn’t even let Diva enter even when she visited you. You’re acted as if you know who we’ll turn to if you keep your stint. Gosh, Azrael, you’re so childish. You could have called Knox directly, why pretend like you’re dying over some cuts?"
Kayden put a bit of strength in the final wrap which made Azrael winced and glared at him. The doctor quickly apologized, albeit insincerely, "Sorry, sorry. It’s done. Keep it wrapped and dry. After the first day, rinse the area with clean water and avoid putting pressure or pouring alcohol on it. If it reopened, come back. And burn this to that thick head of yours, Azi, stop acting recklessly. You’re not some invincible thug."
"Tsk. I know. Enough of the nagging. Diva already kicked me after I went to their house and talked with her parents," Azrael stood.
Kayden tidied the medical kit while asking, "So, is it official, then?"
From the triumphant smile crossing Azrael’s face, Kayden could already tell the answer. He shook his head and stood, taking the kit to his assistant nurse’s desk. "I’m surprised Uncle Rage just let it happen."
"I don’t think he’d stop just like that," Azrael answered with displeasure. "That old man will pull some strings to put me back on acting his play."
"Then, make sure you’re protecting Knox, Azi. Getting involved with you is already troublesome. If your father knows about him, he might be in danger," Kayden replied, giving his cousin a serious look. He was worried that the poor omega would be dragged into Rage and Azrael’s dispute. If Azrael was already scary, then the older alpha was more frightening.
Kayden became so preoccupied with Knox’s situation that he didn’t notice Azrael’s face change. He walked to the doctor and grabbed his collar, making Kayden flinched and startled. He looked at Azrael with bewildered eyes. "What the hell? What’s wrong with you so suddenly?"
Azrael barked, "Why do you sound so concerned about him? I’ve noticed you always softened when we talked about Knox. Do you like him, Kayden?"
Kayden gave his cousin a weird look. His forehead creased as he responded clearly, "What nonsense are you talking about?! Of course, I’m concerned about him. Knox is my p—
The door opened and a masculine yet tender voice reached Azrael and Kayden’s ears. "I’m back. Are you fi—," Knox’s words were cut off when he saw Azrael grabbing the doctor by the collar, while the latter was gripping Azrael’s arm so tight it might bruise. Knox quickly walked to them and pulled Azrael while asking, "Are you guys fighting?! Stop it. Let go, Azrael. Don’t take revenge like this just because you got slapped!"
Kayden’s brows knitted, thinking to himself, ’Did I ever slap this bastard?’
Knox, unaware of Kayden’s confusion, pulled Azrael away to the doctor and reprimanded him like a mother to his rebellious child. "Why do you always resort to violence? Stop acting like a gangster and talk properly. If you got slapped, then ask him why he did that first before jumping—
"I didn’t slap him though," Kayden interrupted.
Knox looked back at him. The doctor looked at him directly to prove his honesty, so Knox turned to Azrael again, saying, "How many lies did you spout in that call?"
Azrael frowned, clearly displeased after being scolded. He pointed at Kayden and complained, "You smacked me in the head before, when I was swinging Knoa in the hallway."
Both Kayden and Knox were speechless. They exchanged glances which Azrael caught on. He pulled Knox closer to him and glared at Kayden, jealousy rising in his head.
"Knox is your what? Don’t even think of claiming him yours, Kayden Montgomery. I swear—
"I’m his patient," Knox cut him off.
Azrael turned to look at him, surprise etched on his face. The omega sighed and pressed his temple, giving Azrael an accusing look. He felt cornered and didn’t want to put Kayden in a bad spot with his cousin, so he ended up mentioning his condition to Azrael instead.
Soon after, Azrael’s hardened face became as soft as a feather and as bright as the sun. A playful smirk hung on his lips as he commented, "So, you’ve been taking advantage of me, huh, acting like you hate my presence but you’re actually looking forward to—mph!"
Knox just covered the alpha’s mouth out of irritation. He hissed, "Shut up. It’s not like that!"
However, Azrael just licked Knox’s palm and the omega quickly jumped away like a cat getting thrown a cucumber. His face flushed and as he rubbed his palms together, he yelled to Azrael, "Pervert!"
Azrael laughed. Mischief was visible in his slightly curved eyes. He told Knox, "Then, I’m willing to help. I’ll help you improve your condition. That means I need to be with you every time, right? Doing things that might help you release your bottled-up pheromones. I can take them well since I’m no longer unstable, so give them all to me, in any time, any place, and...in any way."
He winked at Knox at the last words. Knox quickly understood what he meant and his already reddened face became even more tinted. He averted his eyes and huffed, "No, thanks. I’ll handle it by myself from now on."
Azrael ignored his words. He walked to Knox sporting a wicked grin, while Knox slowly stepped backward until his back touched the wall.
At the corner of these all happenings, stood Kayden with a disgusted look on his face. He just witnessed his cousin flirt, and he already wanted to puke. Before Azrael and Knox’s lips met, Kayden coughed loudly it must have been heard outside his office.
Knox pushed Azrael away, embarrassed and flustered. Azrael glared at Kayden who pointed to the door and mouthed, "Get lost, you bastard."
Azrael pulled Knox to the door while waving his middle finger in the air for Kayden to see.
Knox complained after getting dragged out, "Wait! Where are we going now?"
Azrael didn’t look at Knox and just hastened his steps to the parking lot. He answered as he opened the door for him, "I told you I have something I want to show you."
"What is it?"
"It’s a surprise," Azrael immediately whirled to the other side and hopped in. He started the engine of the car. Knox thought that they would go already, however, he was surprised when Azrael suddenly lurched forward and snatched the seatbelt from his hands.
Knox heard the ’click’ sound, but when he thought Azrael would pull away already, the man lifted his chin and brushed his lips against his, softly and teasingly. Knox gasped. He didn’t intend to close his eyes, but his eyelids automatically shut when Azrael nibbled his lips.
A soft chuckle reached his ears and he slowly fluttered his eyes open, sighting Azrael looking down at him with much fervor and intensity. Azrael whispered, "I’m going to help you from now on. So, don’t refuse it."
He waited for Knox to answer. When Knox slowly nodded his head, Azrael beamed. He planted a quick kiss on the omega’s lips and hummed, "Then, we’re going on a date now."
Sighing, Knox just let Azrael bring him somewhere. He furtively pounded his chest to calm his racing heart. When he turned to the other side and saw his faint reflection in the window, he was stunned, seeing a wide smile on his face.
All this while, Knox had been unconsciously smiling, yet instead of hiding it again, he looked back at Azrael who turned to him after noticing his gaze. And those grey eyes had never glowed that way before, as they mirrored Knox’s smiling appearance and glittering eyes against the bright light of the midday sun.
Once again, Azrael knew he was falling even harder than he already was.
