Chapter 56: Trapped by the devil [4]

"Who was that?"

Diva stretched her arms up and made her shoulders crack. Then, she split her legs straight like a line above the mat as she slowly descended her arms on her knees, and bent her body forward. She easily reached her toes without straining, and her posture showed her curves as the muscles on her bare back and shoulders flexed.

Azrael pocketed his phone as he dismounted from the treadmill. He walked to Diva and kicked her leg slightly, "Hey, get lost. I have a visitor to arrive."

Diva looked up at him, unbothered by the fact that Azrael could easily peek at her cleavage, yet still bent her body backward, and pushed her stomach out, "What? Your f*ck buddy?"

The male alpha scowled. He waited for her to stop stretching and stand, but Diva only picked up her right leg and stretched it up, she even wriggled her foot which reached Azrael’s stomach in height to annoy him more, but the latter simply caught her foot and dragged her out the yoga mat until the gym’s door.

"What the heck, Azi! Hey, you don’t have to drag me! I get it, I’ll leave," Diva protested. She pulled her foot back from Azrael’s loosened grip and sat up, "How dare you use my gorgeous body as a mop," she stood and patted her buttocks, "In the first place, I wouldn’t even have come here if you explain things to the media and let it drag. Seriously, you and Athan Horace fighting over that b*tch Elise? I spit my food out when I heard that news from my secretary."

Azrael turned his back to Diva and snatched a towel from the towel rack, then he started wiping his nape as he replied, "I’ll explain it soon, or maybe I will even withdraw the case if things work out as I planned."

"So, it was all just your plan? Ruining a perfectly functioning company with hundreds, or maybe even thousands of employees depending on it like it was nothing. God, you’re so evil Azrael. Change your ways or no one will stick with you."

"You say that when your family’s at my beck and call."

Diva scowled at him, "Yeah, damn you," she went past him and headed to a room. "I’m going to take a bath first. Once I’m done, let’s talk about this scandal so I can properly give explanations to the people concerned with our relationship and might as well answer some questions from the annoying reporters that’d been camping at my house’s gates. Argh, you’re so problematic, I’m having wrinkles because of you!"

Azrael went downstairs, leaving a reply to retreating Diva, "You’re just getting old."

The door slammed loudly. He clicked his tongue and reminded himself to drag the woman out before Knox arrived. Throwing the towel on the couch, he opened the fridge and took a bottle of water, then like an impatient dog waiting for its master’s arrival, he stood before the screen where the gates were being monitored.

He twisted the cap of the bottled water and was about to drink from it, but his movement halted when he saw a few cars stationed meters away from the gates. Narrowing his eyes, he focused clearly on recognizing the cars, and once he did, his eyebrows twitched.

"What the hell are they doing letting some paparazzi inside this subdivision?" He said through gritted teeth. He called security and demanded they to scare the reporters away, while giving orders to not let just any visitors in his house enter the exclusive subdivision gates.

However, several minutes later, as Azrael watched the subdivision’s enforcers shoo away the unpermitted guests through the screen, his phone rang again and the security at the subdivision gates was calling.

"Sir, a grey Audi A3 Sedan was asking permission for entry. The driver claims that he has a prior appointment with you."

Azrael arched his brows. Knox used to come driving a black Toyota, so he was unsure who it was, "State his name."

Distant voices were heard through the phone before the clear voice of the security guard came again, "Knox Arden, sir."

"Let him in."

Luckily, the enforcers succeeded in kicking away the reporters camping at his gate. As he waited for the grey car to roll in, his fingers tapped on his elbows in impatience. Not long after, the awaited car appeared.

Azrael pressed the button to open the gate next to the screen, and it soon opened automatically, then Knox entered.

"Long time no see," Azrael sarcastically remarked as soon as Knox appeared before him. He ignored the omega’s displeased appearance. What he focused on was figuring out the scent on him. He sat on the couch with his legs crossed and both his arms resting above the backrest. With their distance, he couldn’t discern it properly, so he stood and walked to Knox.

Knox slightly felt nervous from the approaching alpha, yet he never stepped back. If he showed his tail, Azrael would only take advantage of his cowardice again.

"You said you were in heat," Azrael stated. Knox flinched. He lowered his eyes to avoid the alpha’s piercing gaze. His husky voice lingered in Knox’s ears after he stopped a foot away from him and bent forward a little closer, "Yet, I don’t smell any disturbance on your scent or even a slight speck of another’s alpha in you."

Knox did not like his tone so he scowled, emphasizing every word, he replied, "I did not spend my heat with anyone."

Azrael halted. Without turning his head or straightening his body, only his eyes moved sideways to stare at Knox. His naturally curled, long eyelashes were clearly displayed right before his sight, and his side profile was one to be admired, sharp and defined yet mixed with gentleness.

He asked again, masking his glee, "I thought you’d be spending it with your boss, as you were with him all day long."

"Why would I spend my heat with him?!" Knox shuddered and his face distorted from disgust. ’That would be incest!’ he shouted inwardly. "And how did you know I was with him all day long?"

Azrael silently rejoiced at Knox’s reaction. To see his face painted with disgust just by hearing someone believe that he had that kind of relationship with his boss was satisfying. However, his ecstasy was dampened after Knox asked the second sentence.

"Why would you spend the whole day with him if you’re in your heat? Are you stupid? Don’t you really have any sense of danger in that head of yours? What if he jumped you and you ended up..." he stopped babbling. Remembering Knox’s reaction after the day they met, he could only frown and sigh. He didn’t want him to remember something unpleasant. He moved away and answered his second question, "I went to your address and there was a beta who told me you were with that as*hole."

"Don’t call Athan an as*hole," Knox warned. He glared at him and decided to tell him the truth, "Besides, Athan and I are—

"Oho~ so it’s you?" A lovely voice interrupted Knox. He turned to the direction of the staircase where it came from and witnessed Diva descending in nothing bath a bathrobe, with her hair still damp and her smooth skin moist from the bath. She smiled at Knox, "You’re Rikard Meyers’ date, aren’t you? Athan Horace’s secretary, as I remember. Did you come here because of the scandal your boss created?"

Knox was surprised. He never thought that someone would be there, and Azrael’s fiancée at that. He felt uncomfortable standing with them, especially when they clearly did something before he arrived. Begrudgingly, Knox felt his chest tightened at that thought.

He moved away from the male alpha and answered the female one boldly, "I believe it wasn’t Athan who started the fight. I came here to ask the truth."

Azrael’s face darkened. "So, you believe it was me? Just so you know, Mr. Arden, I was hurled to the wall so hard my back had bruises and my shoulders almost got dislocated."

"And you just walked away after that? As if you intend to let anyone see how violent Athan is. I know you said something to him that made him so angry. What is it? Tell me, Mr. Del Valle. I will decide if Athan really attacked you without acceptable reason or simply disliked your face," Knox accused. He did his best to subdue his angry voice.

Diva approached them and nodded as if she was listening to a heated debate and Knox’s side was starting to gain the upper hand. She observed the silent Azrael whose face turned indescribable. Then, she amusingly thought, ’Heh. Look at that face, hahahahaha, never thought I’d see that mighty bastard’s pained expression.’

However, to the omega’s eyes, Azrael was rather dismayed and seemingly restraining himself from strangling him.

Diva chipped in again, curiously pestering Knox for an answer, "By the way, why do you think like that? I’m not familiar with your boss, but isn’t it too much to accuse Azrael when you can simply ask the truth from your boss himself before barging in? You’re quite brave for an omega, are you not afraid Azrael will jump you?"

’They even said the same things. They view omegas as weak and easily get jumped by anyone...’ Knox mumbled to himself. He shifted his gaze from Azrael to his fiancée, "Athan won’t tell me. It’s not that he didn’t want to tell me, but it’s because he can’t." Knox glanced at the male alpha again, "It was because of me, wasn’t it? Did you say something about me? Something hurtful? Did you insult me? What did you say? That I sleep around with alphas or walked around releasing my pheromones to whoever the f*ck has a dick?!" The last strand subduing his furious voice snapped. However, silence only answered him. So, he screamed again, "The heck, Mr. Del Valle, why won’t you answer?!"

A few moments later, Azrael finally spoke, his voice commanding and dark, "Get out."

’Ah, he did insult me,’ Knox concluded. He kept that to himself, yet a flicker of pain showed in his eyes that quickly disappeared as well. He won’t let the man learn that he was hurt. He turned away immediately.
